HSSB has established the LeRoy LaViolette Swimming Scholarship in the amount of $500 to be awarded to a current or former HSSB swimmer pursuing a post-secondary degree. While it is preferred that the applicant pursue swimming after high school, it is not required.
The following criteria apply to the selection process:
The applicant must be a past or current swimmer with HSSB
The applicant can be pursuing a swimming career at the college level, but it is not required
The applicant must be graduating from high school with at least a 2.5 GPA or, if in college, maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA
A recipient will only be able to receive the scholarship once during their college years. Applicants may reapply during each year of college provided they have not been previously awarded the scholarship and continue to meet the award criteria.
The award will be paid to the student after they have completed a successful semester of college.
Should the person selected to receive the scholarship be unable to attend college or institution in the year in which the award is made, the HSSB Scholarship Committee shall reconvene to review the circumstances of the student’s inability to attend college or it may declare the scholarship to be forfeited and shall proceed to award another deserving student the scholarship based upon the criteria mentioned above
Applications are typically due in March of each year. Announcements will be made on the HSSB news page when this deadline is approaching. For 2018, the deadline is May 13, 2018.
