Rookie

The HSSB Rookie level is for new swimmers with little experience who are excited about starting a FUN sport.

REQUIRED:

Swimmers must swim a continuous 50 yards freestyle with side breathing and 50 yards backstroke in a tryout.

Coaches will test new swimmers to make sure that they meet this requirement. If not, we will ask that swimmers go back to swim lessons and try the team again the next season.

White

White is for swimmers with legal free, back, and breaststroke. The focus of White is on technique, gaining stamina, starts/turns, and learning to use the time clock.

REQUIRED:

  • Swimmers must swim 5 x 100 freestyle @ 2:45

  • Swimmers must swim a legal 2 x 50 breaststroke and a legal open turn

  • Swimmers must swim 2 x 50 freestyle with breathing to the side and a flip turn

  • Swimmers must swim 2 x 50 backstroke with a flip turn

  • Swimmers should also be able to dive from the side of the pool, streamline off each wall after turning, execute a dolphin kick off each wall after turning (except after breastroke), and be able to do a breaststroke pullout

 


Blue

Blue is for swimmers with legal free, back, and breaststroke, but with an even more endurance emphasis. Blue group will still focus heavily on fine tuning technique, just with more endurance and one more practice available per week.

REQUIRED:

  • Swimmers must swim 5 x 100 freestyle @ 2:15

  • Swimmers must swim a legal 4 x 50 breaststroke and a legal open turn with legal breastroke pullout

  • Swimmers must swim 4 x 50 freestyle with breathing to the side and a flip turn

  • Swimmers must swim 4 x 50 backstroke with a flip turn

  • Swimmers should also be able to dive from the side of the pool, streamline off each wall after turning, execute a dolphin kick off each wall after turning (except after breastroke), and be able to do a legal breastroke pullout

 


Bronze

Bronze is for swimmers who have gained the proper endurance for an increased training level. Increased yardage and intensity begins in bronze. 

REQUIRED

  • All strokes must be legal

  • Swimmers must be able to dive from the blocks (including relay exchanges)

  • Swimmers must do consistent flip turns (freestyle and backstroke) in practice and at meets

  • Swimmers must swim 5 x 100 free @ 1:50

  • Swimmers must swim 4 x 50 fly @ 1:05

  • Swimmers must swim 4 x 50 back @ 1:00

  • Swimmers must swim 4 x 50 breast @ 1:05

  • Swimmers must kick 8 x 50 @ 1:15

  • Additionally, swimmers must demonstrate consistent streamlined entries on starts, have strong underwaters and breakouts in all strokes, consistent breaststroke pullouts, and strong finishes in all strokes

 


Silver

Silver is for swimmers who have reached a training level capable of 2 hour practices.

REQUIRED:

  • Swimmers must swim 10 x 100 free @ 1:45

  • Swimmers must swim 8 x 50 fly @ :50

  • Swimmers must swim 8 x 50 back @ :45

  • Swimmers must swim 8 x 50 breast @ :55

  • Swimmers must kick 10 x 50 @ 1:05

 


Gold

Gold is for the HSSB swimmers who are looking for the highest training level.

REQUIRED:

  • Swimmers must swim 10 x 100 free @ 1:30

  • Swimmers must swim 8 x 50 fly @ :45

  • Swimmers must swim 8 x 50 back @ :40

  • Swimmers must swim 8 x 50 breast @ :50

  • Swimmers must kick 10 x 50 @ 1:00
