Group Descriptions

**​All level placement is at the discretion of the primary coach or head coach

GROUP DESCRIPTIONS


Senior

  • Senior is for swimmers who are invited to the group based on training ability/consistent effort, practice/meet attendance and positive team attitude.  Swimmers in this level have made a full commitment to the sport.
  • Senior group is for year round swimmers who are committed to maximizing their swimming potential
  • Regular practice attendance is expected and necessary to remain in the group
  • Meet attendance is mandatory unless excused by a coach
  • Athletes in the level will have morning workouts at the coach's discretion
  • Athletes in this level will be educated in the process of competing on a larger scale including but not limited to transitioning to college swimming and competing at a national level.  Dryland will be expected to be approached with the same focus and precision as pool training workouts

Junior

  • Jr Group is for the top year round 11 - 14 swimmers (who are not in Senior) based on training ability/consistent effort, practice/meet attendance and positive team attitude
  • Jr Group swimmers must be highly proficient in all four strokes, all turns and all starts
  • Regular practice attendance is expected and necessary to remain in the group
  • Meet attendance is mandatory unless excused by a coach
  • Emphasis on simulating an appropriate training environment while prioritizing size, strength, mental and physical maturity, and commitment to the sport will be analyzed by the coaching staff in order to qualify for this level.

Gold

  • Gold Group is for 10 - 18 year old swimmers (who are not in Jr) based on training ability/consistent effort, practice/meet attendance and positive team attitude
  • Gold Group swimmers must be highly proficient at all four strokes, all turns and all starts
  • Regular practice attendance is expected to remain in the group
  • Meet attendance is mandatory unless excused by a coach

Silver

  • Silver Group is for the top 10 & Under swimmers based on training ability/consistent effort, practice/meet attendance and positive team attitude
  • Silver Group swimmers must be legal and proficient at all four strokes, all turns and all starts
  • Regular practice attendance is expected to remain in the group
  • Meet attendance is mandatory unless excused by a coach
  • Swimmers in this level will be learning how to transition from fundamental knowledge of strokes to a more well-rounded knowledge of the physical and mental side to the sport.  Workouts in this level will be emphasizing stroke technique and training concepts equally.

Bronze A Training

  • Bronze A Training is for swimmers 11-14 years old who have continued improvement on technique in strokes, and are ready for the training aspect of swimming.
  • Swimmers must have been swimmers with the Wave swim team for a minimum of 6 months
  • Regular practice attendance is expected
  • Meet attendance is mandatory unless excused by a coach

Bronze A

  • Bronze A is for swimmers 11-13 years old who need technique improvement in strokes, turns and starts
  • Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle and 25 yards of one other stroke to qualify for the group
  • Regular practice attendance is expected
  • Meet attendance is mandatory unless excused by a coach
  • Stroke execution takes priority over speed in this level.  Swimmers in Bronze A will be preparing to make a transition into a more definitive training environment when appropriate.

Bronze B

  • Bronze B is for swimmers 9-10 years old who need technique improvement in strokes, turns and starts
  • Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle and 25 yards of three other strokes to qualify for the group
  • Regular practice attendance is expected
  • Meet attendance is mandatory unless excused by a coach
  • Stroke execution takes priority over speed in this level.  Swimmers in Bronze B will be preparing to make a transition into a more definitive training environment when appropriate

Purple

  • Purple is for the top 8 & Under swimmers
  • Swimmers must be legal in all four strokes
  • Regular practice attendance is expected
  • Meet attendance is mandatory unless excused by a coach
  • Swimmers in Purple have a firm understanding of proper technique for freestyle and backstroke with the ability to do proper turns, starts and streamlines or have joined the team with a strong foundation of this knowledge.  More advanced concepts of timing, rhythm, body position and body line for breaststroke and butterfly will be enhanced.  Stroke execution takes priority over speed in this level.  Aerobic base will not be developed by “training” at this level.  Swimmers must be comfortable going off of the diving block in order to qualify for this level. 

Clinic

  • Clinic is for swimmers 10 & Under who need technique improvement in proper stroke mechanics for Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly.
  • Goal of Clinic group is to move up to the competitive side of swim team
  • Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and one other stroke to qualify for the group
  • Regular practice attendance is expected
