Thursday, September 27 Update

This week's topic:

This week we will continue with some freestyle endurance and start working on backstroke technique and endurance. Be sure to double check our schedule for October! On Tuesdays and Fridays we will now be practing at Brookfield Central from 5:30-6:45 starting the week of October 7th!

First Meet Tips:

1) Keep an eye on your emails/the Gator Blast for arrival times, timelines, and often times the heat sheets. Some meets decide to sell paper heat sheets at the meet, other teams will post the heat sheets on line for you to print beforehand.

2) Swimmers should arrive at the meet at least 15 minutes before warm-ups. I will always put the arrival time that I expect in my Gator Blast the week of the meet. The day of, if you are unable to make it by this time (traffic, other commitment before, illness, etc) this needs to be communicated to me ASAP via text/email. If you know prior to the day of the meet that you are unable to keep your commitment, please send me an email/text as soon as you know! While Coach Carissa is coaching the high school girls you can reach Coach Margaret at 224-567-9772 or via email at marglotzer1027@gmail.com to be notifying us of any of these changes!

3) Swimmers should come with a team suit, team apparel (extra clothes) swim cap, 2 pairs of goggles, towel, and healthy snacks/water. It is often cold on the deck for swimmers and I would recommend clothes to wear while wet and dry clothes to change into after the meet.

4) Write your child's event numbers on their arm in pen or sharpie. If the heat sheets are available online the night before, they should come with their heats and lanes written on their arm as well. Example:

E   H     L

2     1       6     50 free

6     2       5      50 back

5) Swimmers should talk to their coach before AND after each race! Crucial for improvement and learning!

6) Swimmers sit with their teammates. Parents sit with other parents! Encourage your child to spend the majority of their time with the team. They can obviously come chat with you after talking to their coach after their race! But should not be in the stands with you. Get to know other EBSC parents! It definitely makes it more fun!

8) Anything other questions feel free to ask!

Waukesha Meet:

It is a swim your own age meet, meaning you can only swim the events for your child's age. I entered most swimmers in the 4 50's. 9-12 year olds will swim in the morning session (arrive at 6:45 AM) and 8&under swimmers will swim in the PM session. I do not have exact timelines, those will be available the week before the meet.

EBSC Meet:

Our first EBSC hosted meet is October 19 at Brookfield East. Those entries are available for viewing. 9&Under Swimmers are in the AM session and 10-12 year olds are in the PM session. Exact timelines won't be available until the week or two before the meet. Watch your email for volunteer registration. Since this is an EBSC hosted event, all parents are required to volunteer at least one session or apply for a sub to cover that requirement.

Thursday, September 19 Update

This week's topic:

This week we continue to work on freestyle, focusing on head position and balance during the breath. We will increase our main sets a little bit to challenge our endurance.

Waukesha Meet (@ Waukesha South High School):

The entries for this competition are available for viewing.

Thursday, September 12 Update

Welcome to the short course season AGT! I'm excited for a great season!

This week's topic:

To start of the season we have been working on body position and flutter kicking! Two important components for freestyle and backstroke. I am enjoying getting to know my new swimmers and have returning AGT's to help with routines and the pace clock!

For those of you that are new: I focus on a topic for an entire week M-F. So, if your swimmer misses a day or two they are still getting instruction on the topic of the week and have opportunties to reinforce those skills when they come back to practice throughout the week. We do a warm-up, skills/drills, a main set to focus on application of those skills and build endurance, a kick set, and then a few times a week we play games the last 10 minutes of practice!

AGT Equipment needs:

1) Attire: Practice suit (other than your EBSC suit), goggles, and a swim cap (highly encouraged for all, particularly for long hair; although otherwise optional)

2) Flippers: long fin, closed back, light/flexible fin (Speedo Triathlon Rubber Fins on Elsmore Team Store).

3) Kickboard (optional) although encouraged - there's not always enough at the high schools.

4) Meet suit - available through the Elsmore Team Store - I encourage AGT swimmers to make this a suit you only wear at meets.

5) Practice suit- This does not have to be an EBSC suit and should be separate from a meet suit. These are also available at Elsmore

Swim Meets:

Please let me know if you have questions about meets! I can help you with which meets to choose and I will pick your swimmers events as it gets closer to the competition date, and will email meet information the week before a competition. If for some reason you cannot keep your meet commitment, the earlier I know about it the better (earlier meaning at least 2 weeks in advance). Sometimes we can refill your reserved spot, other times we can't. If you cannot keep a meet commitment please email as soon as you know! If last minute changes happen, I do need to be notified about those as well!

The requirement for 12&Under swimmers is 50% meet attendance, although I would encourage closer to 80-100% meet attendance. The more opportunities to race, the more experience and chance for improvement! There are 9 meets offered for AGT (12 if you count the 3 that require qualifying standards) in the short course season.

EBSC is hosting 2 meets this season; Oct 19 and Jan 4 - all parents will be required to volunteer at these meets; swimmers should swim at our home meet!

Lastly, all AGT swimmers should plan to attend at least one session of the regional meet Feb 16-18. Friday is usually 200 IM/500 free which I only enter kids upon request. This is the final meet of the season for those that do not qualify for the 12&under state meet.

Outdoor Practice reminders:

Starting next week for the rest of the season, we will be outside at Wiberg/Wirth 3 out of 4 practices and indoors (usually Mondays) once. Our indoor days will have more start/turn focus with the availability of starting blocks and more wall space.

Here are some reminders about outdoor practices!

1) Meet outside the pool building beginning at 4:15 PM. We will enter the facility together at 4:30 PM to begin pool set-up and warm ups. We will do our core work towards the end of practice instead of at the beginning.

2) Parents staying to watch practice must remain outside the facility/fence. No parents/spectators allowed on the pool deck. I would suggest bringing a camp chair and sitting behind the fence near the big flume slide, by the tennis courts.

3) In the case of inclement weather (thunder, lightning, heavy rain) swimmers will exit the water and go inside the building. Practice would resume 30 minutes after the last thunder/lightning heard/sighted. Please use your best judgment.  If there is thunder at 4:50 or later we will cancel.  PLEASE come and get your swimmer.  Also please make sure your cell number is set up on team unify so you can receive text messages.

4) Swimmers staying after practice for open swim must exit the facility with all of their belongings and wait outside the pool building for re-admission.

5) Wiberg/Wirth typically does not have enough boards for the volume of swimmers we have at practice. If your swimmer does not have their own kickboard, I would recommend getting one. A mesh bag might be a good investment, too, as swimmers can best be responsible for their belongings with a mesh bag for their fins and board and other equiment! Mesh bags at Elsmore

Thursday, June 6 Update:

This week's topic:

We will work on freestyle technique - particularly using kick and hip rotation in our freestyle. Our sets will continue to be longer and incorporate some IM work. This is our last full week indoors!

Biathlon & Team Picnic:

Swimmers that are registered for the biathlon should arrive at Wirth Park by 7:45 AM for registration and warm-ups. If your swimmer is not registered, but still wants to participate - please email Coach Brent ASAP!

The run is first; swim second. Usually kids run in their swim suit, running shoes and socks, and either wear their cap and goggles on their head or leave them by the big slide where they enter the pool. The races will begin at 8:40 AM starting with the oldest age group and ending with the youngest age group.

The picnic (that you needed to register for separately) will begin after the pool area has been cleared (usually 10:00 AM). You will exit the facility and line up at the gate for the picnic committee to check you in. The picnic/party ends at noon.

Noah's Ark!

This week will be a butterfly week. Expect some butterfly in all of our sets. We will also be practicing for the biathlon - switching lanes and swimming longer distances.

Biathlon and Team Picnic:

Saturday, June 8 - Biathlon and Team Picnic (registration for the biathlon and picnic are separate!) - registration closes May 25

After the biathlon is the annual team picnic for swimmers and families. Hoping everyone can make it to this fun party!

BDSC Recap:

Long weekend, but worth if for lots of new updated best times going into long course season! Congratulations to Owen Patterson for achieving his 50m back state cut! Swimmers did a great job being responsible and getting to the appropriate lanes and racing fast! Once we get outside to practice in long course meters, we will work on racing through the middle (last 25 of the 50); but in the meantime, at practice swimmers can push themselves harder at the end of a 50 or 100 to practice the same thing.

Thursday April 4 Update

This week's topic:

In preparation for this Friday's time trial meet, we will work on breaststroke and butterfly technique this week. On Wednesday April 3, Amy Balducci will help with a "mock meet" that will look like our sprint work/high quality and lead a talk about disqualifications and meet questions. New swimmers to the club should plan to attend practice this night!

Time Trial Meet:

The Time Trial meet will be held at Brookfield East Friday April 5. All swimmers should arrive by 4:45 PM for warm-ups. The competition begins at 5:45. More detailed information like timeline and heat sheets will be released this week.

Contact me @ 414-530-4346 (text) or paasch.ca@gmail.com

7) New EBSC swimmers should make it a point to attend practice Wednesday, April 5 - we will practice meet procedures and I believe there will be an official on hand for parent questions!

8) Anything else? Just ask!

Thank you to all families and swimmers for your volunteered time at Pizza Day! The Elmbrook Swim Club depends on your commitment and involvement and we hope you had a great time fulfilling dreams of working in a pizza parlor and bonding/building relationships with fellow EBSC families! Go Gators!

Thursday, March 28 Update

This week's topic:

This week we will work on freestyle endurance and start working on backstroke technique.

Upcoming Events:

Saturday, March 30 - Pizza Day

Saturday, April 27 - SWAT Meet

EBSC Time Trial Meet:

On Friday April 5, EBSC will be hosting a "Time Trial" meet for our team only. This is a fun, team building event and another opportunity to race without the commitment of a regular meet. The last one we ran in February was just a few hours and we had lots of fast swims. The deadline to commit is March 31 - please log-in and commit!

Thursday, March 21 Update

This week's topic:

This week we continue to work on 3-point push-offs/streamlines and freestyle, focusing on head position and balance during the breath. We will increase our main sets a little bit to challenge our endurance.

This season I have added 5 minute core work at the beginning of each practice. Please make sure your child is ready at the time that practice begins!  Also, please make sure your child is picked up no later than 15 minutes after the end of practice. Thank you!

Upcoming Events:

Saturday, March 30 - Pizza Day

Saturday, April 27 - SWAT Meet

Thursday, March 14 Update

Welcome to the long course season AGT! I'm excited to get started!

This week's topic:

This week we will be working on body position and flutter kicking!

3) Kickboard (optional) although encouraged - there's not always enough at the high schools...

4) Meet suit -required to purchase, check the newsletter for how to purchase - I encourage AGT swimmers to make this a suit you only wear at meets. So order your team suit and have a practice suit as well. I would also recommend keeping your team cap for meets and having a practice cap as well.

Swim Meets:

Meet commitments is now closed. I will pick your swimmers events as it gets closer to the competition date, and will email meet information the week before a competition.

EBSC is hosting 2 meets this season; the 8&Under meet (8&under families require to work) - all parents will be required to volunteer 3-4 shifts at these Regionals/Silver State in July (7/19-21).

Thursday, February 14 Update

This week's topic:

Last week of practice! I can't believe it! We will continue with starts, turns, and fine tuning all 4 strokes. I am so excited with the turnout that we will have at Regionals and am excited to watch a lot of fast swimming!

The season will conclude at Regionals Feb 15-17 (unless your swimmer qualifies for the state meet Feb 22-24). There will be no practice from Feb 18-March 11.

Time Trial Meet Recap:

We had about 40% of our group attend the first ever EBSC Time Trial meet! I was proud of my swimmers for choosing their own events and taking on some bigger races! Shout out to Abbie, Tess, and Maeve who all swam their first 200 breaststroke (my favorite event!!), Johnathon, Maddie, Maeve, Evan, and Tess swam the 200 IM, Abbie swam the 200 free, and Max swam the 500 free (his 2nd time!). We had a few swims inching closer to some state time standards that I'm looking forward to watching again this weekend! Overall, on Saturday we had 70% best times! Great swimming Gators!

Long Course Meets - AGT:

Group assignments will be coming out this week (Feb 14). For swimmers that are with AGT for long course, I have a few recommendations. Keep in mind that AGT swimmers are expected to attend at least 50% of the meets throughout the season (1 or more sessions of a meet), although we would like to see meet attendance closer to 80% - the racing and hanging out with your friends is the best part!!!

Mark your calendars for June 8 - the EBSC Biathlon and Team Picnic!! All AGT swimmers should plan to do this run/swim challenge and come hang out at Wirth Park with their family, teammates. and coaches.

Our first meet is at SWAT on April 27 (25y) and then MFSC on May 4 (25y). I would highly encourage the 50m meets since we only get 4 of them (BDSC May 18-19, SEA June 1-2, SEA June 21-22, PX3 Triangular - full team bus trip - July 11). I would hope all AGT swimmers would attend the PX3 Triangular team travel meet - this is a really fun day for the whole Elmbrook team!

All AGT swimmers should attend Regionals, season-ending competition, (EBSC hosted - parents will be required to volunteer at 2 sessions of this meet) on July 19-21.

Coming Up:

- Regionals @ Waukesha South Feb 15-17

- Meet Commitment opens for Long Course Season - Feb 15

- 12 & Under Banquet - March 5 @ Brookfield East

This week's topic:

We will work on freestyle technique this week and clean up flipturns a bit as well.

Swim-a-long:

This coming Saturday is the EBSC swim-a-long. The AGT timeslot is 12:40-1:40. Some kids have been asking questions about the swim-a-long and that is GREAT! The swim is a non-stop swim for 1 hour. Yes, you can stop when needed. You can swim any stroke; you can even kick. Only AGT will swim during that time - so you'll be swimming with people you know! Arrive by 12:30 so that you're ready to get in and start your hour on time! All families are required to raise a minimum donation based on the number of swimmers on the club from your family. This is a fundraiser to replace the 2nd pizza day and the club is looking to generate $25,000. There are some neat incentives for our top fundraisers! Get after it, AGT! Last year was the first year that we did an event like this and the kids had lots of fun! I hope all will be able to attend the swim-a-long on Dec. 1!

BAC - Middleton Travel Meet:

Thursday, September 27 Update

This week's topic:

This week we will continue with some freestyle endurance and start working on backstroke technique and endurance. No swim for us on Tuesday/Thursday this week! See you Monday/Wednesday/Friday!

7) New EBSC swimmers should make it a point to attend practice Friday Oct. 5 - we will practice meet procedures and I believe there will be an official on hand for parent questions!

8) Anything else? Just ask!

Waukesha Meet:

The entries for this competition are available for viewing.

EBSC Meet:

Our first EBSC hosted meet is October 20 at Brookfield East.

Thursday, September 20 Update

This week's topic:

This week we continue to work on freestyle, focusing on head position and balance during the breath. We will increase our main sets a little bit to challenge our endurance.

Waukesha Meet:

The entries for this competition are available for viewing.

Thursday, September 14 Update

Welcome to the short course season AGT! I'm excited to get started!

This week's topic:

This week we have been working on body position and flutter kicking!

3) Kickboard (optional) although encouraged - there's not always enough at the high schools...

4) Meet suit - available through the Elsmore Team Store - I encourage AGT swimmers to make this a suit you only wear at meets.

EBSC is hosting 2 meets this season; Oct 20 and Jan 5 - all parents will be required to volunteer at these meets; swimmers should swim at our home meet!

I would highly encourage the travel meet to Middleton December 8/9. The kids always have fun staying at the hotel with their friends and there are no other meets offered between Nov. 11 and Jan 5. You can always choose to attend only one day by making a note of that on the meet commitment. AGT swimmers usually do not swim the Friday portion of this meet.

Lastly, all AGT swimmers should plan to attend at least one session of the regional meet Feb 16-18. Friday is usually 200 IM/500 free which I only enter kids upon request. This is the final meet of the season for those that do not qualify for the 12&under state meet.

Thursday, June 14 Update

Elmbrook Swim Club: Excellence in life through swimming

This week's topic:

This week is butterfly week - we will focus on throwing our head down/forward, then arms for correct sequence after the breath. We will also begin long course swimming this week! If you do not have your own kickboard, I would encourage you to get your own. There are few kickboards at Wirth Park, but not enough for everyone.

Outdoor Practice reminders:

1) Meet outside the pool building beginning at 4:15 PM. We will enter the facility together at 4:30 PM to begin pool set-up and warm ups.

Biathlon Recap:

AWESOME job AGT at the Biathlon this past Saturday. Great job taking on the challenge and pushing your limits! Top 3 finishers include Sam Bergin (8&under boys - 1st place), Elise Miller (8&Under girls - 1st place) and Bella Brueggeman (8&Under girls - 2nd place).

Thursday, June 7 Update

Elmbrook Swim Club: Excellence in life through swimming

This week's topic:

This week is breaststroke; focusing on a powerful kick to drive the glide forward. We will also continue with "distance" in preparation for the biathlon. Last week Wednesday, we did a test set and through this test set I was able to see swimmers who need to be challenged more. Some swimmers will see a change in their training group at practice and therefore a change in their training interval (their roster/billing group will remain the same). I will speak to these swimmers when I see them this week.

Practice this week:

This week is a busy one for me. It's my last week of school (with students) and the pool I run is open throughout the week. I will be gone from practice on 6/6 (I feel selfish, but taking off for my birthday; Coach Tricia will be there in my absence) and 6/8 (Coach Mandie will be there in my absence). Looking ahead to next week, summer practice times begin and I will also be gone 6/11 because I still have teacher work day and can't get to the early practice.

SEA Pirate Plunge Recap:

coming soon...

Biathlon Information:

Swimmers that are registered for the biathlon should arrive at Wirth Park by 7:45 AM for registration and warm-ups.

Competition Updates:

PX3 Triangular -Team Travel Meet - Wednesday June 27: I highly encourage all AGT swimmers to attend this meet. This is a team travel meet to Pleasant Prairie. Coaches and swimmers take a bus and EBSC competes against two other teams (PX3 and Express). I need to know by June 10th if you want your swimmer to be added to this competition. Its a fun team experience and another opportunity for long course swims! This is typically an 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM commitment.

Other Events:

July 4th Parade - consider walking with EBSC in the parade! It's a fun tradition where swimmers bring squirt guns and walk wearing EBSC apparel to promote our club and celebrate July 4th with the community! This was one of my favorite days of the year as a kid!

Noah's Ark 12&Under team trip: July 10th! Sign-up for the team travel trip to Noah's Ark on the events page. Deadline is July 3!!!

Thursday, April 12 Update

Elmbrook Swim Club: Excellence in life through swimming

This Week's Topic:

We have been working on lots of elements for freestyle the past few weeks. We're working on hand entry just outside our shoulder width, vertical forearm, elbow high, with fingertips pointing down for when we catch the water, and finishing our stroke back by our thigh. We've also spent a good amount of time working on body line: making sure the crown of our head is at the waterline with our nose and eyes looking down to the bottom of the pool.

Pizza Day:

Pizza day is this Saturday at Brookfield Park and Rec. I'm looking forward to seeing all of our volunteers working together for the good of the club! Enjoy your time and be sure to branch out and meet new members/families! That's what makes it so fun!

SWAT Meet - April 28

Entries are now available for viewing for the SWAT meet at Greenfield HS on April 28.

  • AM Session: 8&under swimmers; arrive by 7:15 AM
  • PM Session: 9-12 year old swimmers; arrival time TBA

Please check the entry and let me know if there are any errors. The earlier I know about errors, or swimmers who are committed and are now unable to attend, the better! I put all 9-12 y.o. AGT swimmers in  the 4 50's and 8 year olds in 25 fly, bk, br and 50 free. I'm open to changes if so desired!

Attendance:

Attendance is crucial to improvement. Make an effort to be at practice at much as possible. It is required that AGT swimmers attend 50% of the scheduled practices over the course of the season. However, in this case, more is always better! I understand and encourage involvement in other activities; please let me know about these other commitments! Thank you!

Congrats to the following swimmers on excellent attendance  - 75% or better!

Eric H - 100% Spandana - 100%

Brady C - 91% Ryan H - 91% Siddarth M - 91% Colin R - 91%

Josh C - 82% Jane J - 82% Bella K - 82% Molly P - 82% Ethan Z - 82%

Thursday, March 8 Update

Elmbrook Swim Club: Excellence in life through swimming

Welcome! My name is Carissa (CC - Coach Carissa). I'm eager for the long course season to start. Here is some helpful information for our upcoming season!

1) AGT 1/2 always attend the same practice, but sometimes do different sets depending on ability.

2) AGT swimmers need to have a swimsuit, goggles, and flippers. Swim caps and kickboards are encouraged but not necessary. Flippers like these are perfect: https://www.swimoutlet.com/p/sporti-floating-swim-fins-color-23059/

3) Please be punctual: We hop in the water immediately at the start of our scheduled practice and end promptly. Do not drop your swimmer off more than 15 minutes early to practice and please pick your swimmer up from practice within 15 minutes of the end of the scheduled practice.

4) Attendance is crucial to improvement. Make an effort to be at practice at much as possible. It is required that AGT swimmers attend 50% of the scheduled practices over the course of the season.

Please feel free to text me or email me with any questions!

AGT Meet Expectations:

This past weekend, I had to remind a lot of swimmers of our meet expectations. Please review these with your swimmer!

- Arrive 15 minutes (or more) early to warm-ups! Your EBSC meet suit, cap, and goggles should be ready to go and your events, heats, lanes written on your arm.

- Stay on the pool deck and cheer for your teammates. Also, paying attention to the meet so you don't miss your races. (It's ok to chat to parents in the parent section, but then come back to the deck). It is NOT okay to run around facilities, play in hallways, etc. It's important to rest between races, keep your body warm by wearing clothes (not shivering/wet), and stay involved in the meet by cheering and watching for when your races are coming up.

- BEFORE and AFTER races, talk to your coach (me). Us coaches love to give refreshers/pointers before races and will tell you your time, what you did well, and something to work on after we watch a race. Swimmers that swim best times also get a "gator" reward after their swims; but only if they talk to their coach after the race.

- Communication is key! Notify me (Coach Carissa) if you will be late to warm-ups, need to leave early, or are no longer able to attend the meet. (Especially in the case of relays, we need to know who we have there and then relays are finalized during warm-ups. If you are not there and cause a relay to be scratched, you will be charged for the entire relay).

Thursday, Nov. 16 Update

This Week's Topic:

This week we will be covering butterfly; mainly focusing on putting the breath and kicks in the appropriate spot. We will also work on starts and keep building the intensity of our sets. Last week we routinely split the group into AGT1 and AGT2 to give swimmers the chance to challenge themselves in sets that are appropriate for their level (some swimmers have been swimming up a level too!). We will be able to split the groups more frequently now that I will have an assistant coach!

Welcome Coach Megan!

Our new assistant will be Megan Bingenheimer! Megan has a long history swimming with Elmbrook and just finished her season with Brookfield East's girls team this past weekend. I'm looking forward to working with Megan and having an extra set of eyes/hands to help our swimmers succeed!

Shorewood Swim Meet Recap:

Great racing this past weekend! It was fun to watch some of you race for the first time and to see lots of best times! Congrats to the following swimmers for at least one best time: Ruba, Bella B, Lenny, Kushi, Evelyn, Luke, Max, Ryan, Eric, Maddy, Peter, Bella K, Nish, Kate, Benji, Siddarth, Sully, Emily, Molly, Vino, Jillian, Elizabeth, and David.

Turkey Relays:

The annual Turkey Relays is Saturday, November 18 - highly encourage all swimmers to attend Turkey Relays. This is a fun practice for all the 12&under team. We will do silly relays themed around Thanksgiving; one of my favorite Elmbrook Traditions. Who knows! Maybe an EBSC coach will dress up like a turkey!

This year, we're asking swimmers to bring in non-perishable food items for Turkey Relays. The food will be going to a place near and dear to my heart; the school where I work. I work at Horace Mann Elementary and our school runs a Community Closet that provides clothes for families in need. From now until Christmas, the Community Closet hosts a food drive for our families. The food that is brought in for Turkey Relays will directly benefit the students that I work with everyday.

Parent Social:

The Parent Social is this Sunday, November 19. It's a Packer Party!!!!! Great opportunity to meet and hang out with other swim families! Check your emails for the evite sent on 10-12-17. If you can’t find it, please RSVP: christinestich77@hotmail.com.

The AGT's are expected to use an underwater pullout off the start and every wall in a breaststroke race. I teach them 1) streamline 2) dolphin kick 3) arm pull down 4) breaststroke kick arms up 5) first stroke on top of the water

Here's a video that walks you through the underwater pullout: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4XN3KdVVlk

Upcoming Events/Misc.:

- October 13th - new members please make an effort to be at practice. This is mainly first meet prep - whistle cues, talking to a swim official to talk about disqualifications, going through the motions of a first meet.... It would help to ease new swimmer nerves!

Thursday, Sept. 21 Update

This Week's Topic:

Continuing with balanced freestyle... we've been working on flutter kicking on our sides to build a strong flutter kick (narrow kick, toes pointed, from the hip) and working on an extended reach and finishing the pull on our stroke. Also, working on excellent streamlines off the wall every time! The 3 point push off and excellent streamlines will help us in setting up good body position for our strokes and for fast turns! Verbal cues for excellent streamlines: 3 point push-off (two feet on the wall, one hand on the wall) and "sink, streamline, push and rotate."

Side kick video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ3nwVczsEE

Thursday, Sept. 14 Update

Welcome to the new season! It was great to meet many of the parents at the new member meeting or at practice on Wednesday! If you haven't met me, please stop in before or after practice to introduce yourself!

This Week's Topic:

Freestyle! We are working on putting together a balanced freestyle with kicking, low breathing, and extending the reach of our arms.

Swim-A-Long:

How's your fundraising coming for the swim-a-long? All members that raise funds will get to participate in our fun, new event on October 14th. Swimmers will get to challenge themselves to see how far they can swim in an hour's time!

AGT Miscellaneous Things:

- Please have flippers by next Monday! They should be closed back, long blade preferred, but short is fine too!

- Kickboards are recommended but not required. Sometimes pools are low on kickboards and kids like to have their own... it's up to you!

- WRITE YOUR NAME ON EVERYTHING! Put your initials in the tag of your suit, sharpie your name on your fins and kickboard! Help your child be responsible for their things by asking them the "checklist" when they hop in the car!

- Please communicate with me regular absences (i.e. soccer, instrument lessons, etc.). I really am interested in knowing what your child may be involved in and get the bigger picture of why they may not be at practice! I do understand sometimes you're just not coming some night, you're welcome to just shoot me a text or email.

- Do your best to get to practice as often as possible. Our practice requirement is 50% across the entire season, but that's the minimum. The more your child attends practice, the better progress they will make.

Carpools:

In order to get your swimmer to practice as much as possible, you may need some help with transportation. I have a parent asking if anyone is interested in carpooling from the Davidson/Brookfield Rd. area. Send me an email if you're interested and I can link you with the parent.

Thursday, Sept. 7 Update

Finally! The short course season is upon us! I'm so excited to see all my buddies again and meet our new teammates!

I'm excited to meet all the new members. I will see you Tuesday, September 12 at Brookfield Park and Rec from 5:30-6:30 PM. After the New Member meeting, the EBSC Board will host the annual meeting which everyone is invited to attend; that will be from 6:30-7:30. During the annual meeting or following the meeting I will be available to talk to anyone to address questions, concerns, etc.!

Elsmore Pop-Up Shop: Tuesday, September 12 at Brookfield Park and Rec (during the new member and annual meeting) 5:00-8:00 PM. Come and get your EBSC gear and all of the equipment your swimmer will need for AGT

Practice Equipment: AGT swimmers need the following equipment for swim practice: goggles, cap, practice suit, flippers (closed back, long or short fin), and a swim bag (kickboard optional).

Our first practice is Wednesday, September 13 at Brookfield East 5:30-6:45 PM.

Practice Requirement: AGT is required to attend 50% or more of practices throughout the entire season. Ideally, your swimmer would attend closer to 80-100% to see better progress and skill aquisition. I understand kids are involved in lots of things and this may not be possible; please communicate with me recurring absences and conflicts! I do like to know what else your child is involved in and why they aren't at practice.

Thursday, Aug 3 Update

12&Under State Recap:

Our AGT swimmers swam so fast at 12&Under State this past weekend and helped the entire EBSC 12&Under team finish 3rd in the meet! Our AGT swimmers represented EBSC in the 10&Under session; we had Luke, Logan, Owen, Matthew, Tyler S, and Caroline compete. Of our 6 AGT swimmers, 3 of those (Logan, Tyler, and Luke) are 8 year olds - very few 8 year olds qualified for state this year (and other years). I am very proud of all of our swimmers and their accomplishments (below):

Luke swam 3 individual events and swam 3 best times, earning his 50 breast state cut during a bonus swim! Way to go Luke!

Logan swam the full 6 events and both relays. He placed 8th in the 100m backstroke; earning a podium spot and a medal, 12th in the 50m breast, 9th in the 200 IM, 11th in the 50m back, 13th in the 100m breast, and 13th in the 50m free. Logan's 50m backstroke was a new club record; making Logan the owner of all 4 8&under LCM club records! Logan was a member of the two 10&under boys relays (200 medley and 200 free) that placed 3rd! Way to go Logan!

Owen swam 3 individual events and swam a best time in the 100 fly, earning his state cut during the bonus swim! He was a member of the 10&under boys 200 medley relay that won 3rd place! Way to go Owen!

Matthew swam 3 individual events and 3 best times! Matthew earned 2 new state cuts; the 100m free and the 50m back! Matthew placed 16th in the 50m free. Matthew was also a member of the 3rd place 200 freestyle and medley relays that made it up to the medal podium! Great job Matthew!

Tyler swam 3 individual events and swam 3 best times! One of my favorite races of the weekend was Tyler's 200 IM; he dropped nearly 9 seconds from the first time he swam it last weekend at Silver State and he also earned the state cut in that event. Tyler placed 16th in the 50m breast and was a member of the 3rd place 200 freestyle relay that made it to the medal podium! Great job Tyler!

Caroline swam 3 individual events and one best time in the 100 breast! Caroline was a member of the 10&Under 200 medley relay that placed 4th and the 200 freestyle relay that placed 10th! Great job Caroline!

From myself and the entire EBSC coaching staff - we are all very proud of you! Great racing, Gators!!

Short Course Season:

I'm sure many of you are already itching to get back into the pool! Unfortunately we won't meet again until mid-September. In the meantime, stay active any way possible; get outside, go to a local pool, do other sports, go on bike rides, etc! The more active you stay in the off season, the easier it will be to get back into training in the fall! Enjoy your break and see you soon!

To my AGT's moving on to AG: I know you guys are ready; you've earned it...but I will miss you! Remember to dream big and work hard!

Practice Update - Coach Carissa's Upcoming Absences

Thursday, May 11 Update

Topic of the Week:

This week's topic is breaststroke. We're working on being patient with our stroke, to allow time for the glide; getting into "your line" before going on to the next pull. We've spent lots of time on pullouts and breaststroke turns as well. Very important to use the pullout and turn to your advantage and touch the wall with two hands!
