Swim Levels

The Scotts Bluff Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Scotts Bluff Swim Club to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.  We ask that a swimmer be able to swim across the pool without a floation device when they join the Torpedoes.

The swimmers are grouped by abilities into 4 levels.

LEVEL 1

Level 1 swimmers have previously taken some swim lessons and can swim/float across the pool when they begin Level 1.  We add to those skills by teaching the freestyle and backstroke and correct breathing patterns.  Swimmers learn to swim in a lane safely with others and can complete in their first competitions.

Practice in June and July is at 7:00 am - 8:00 am  Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Practice the remainder of the year is at 5:30 - 6:30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday

LEVEL 2

Level 2 swimmers will learn the breast stroke and butterfly.  Competitive turns and starts will be introduced to the swimmers.  Interval swimming will also be a new challenge.

Practice in June and July is at 7:00 am - 8:00 am  Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
Practice the remainder of the year is at 5:30 - 6:30pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

LEVEL 3

Level 3 swimmers will be working on perfecting all the strokes, turns, starts and will start working on strength and distance swimming.  Practice will be between 1 and 1.5 hours.

Practice in June and July is at 7:00am - 8:30 am Monday through Friday.
Practice the remainder of the year is at 5:30-7:00 pm Monday through Friday.

  LEVEL 4

Level 4 swimmers are working on endurance and decreasing their times.  Practice is based on interval swimming with focus on competition.  Swimmers are encouraged to compete but it is not required.

Practice in June and July is at 7:00am - 8:30 am Monday through Friday.
Practice the remainder of the year is at 5:30-7:00 pm Monday through Friday.

At all levels, the more practice a swimmer completes, the better they will become.  We encourage the swimmers to attend all practices.  The club does not require attendence, you choose what works for your swimmer.

USA Swimming competitions are held regularly during the year in our area and at our pool.  We encourage all swimmers to compete.  Again, it is not required.
