How to Volunteer

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer positions are posted on this website.  To volunteer at your local club, click on Find an Oregon Swim Club.  If you want to be involved, but not sure how, contact Oregon Swimming.

Oregon Swimming is a non-profit organization made up of ore than 70 clubs throughout the state.  Without our volunteers, we would not be able to serve our 7,000+ members.

Interested individuals - often swim parents - donate their time, energy and expertise at every level from the national Board of Directors to the decks of local swimming clubs across the state and , sometimes, all over the country at regional and national championships.

Examples of Volunteer Opportunities:

Swim Meet Support:
Many hands make light work and this has never been truer than when your club hosts a swim meet.  No matter what your skill or interest, there is something you can do at a swim meet.  Be close to the action without sitting in the crowded spectator section

Officials:
These individuals are vital to ensuring fair competition.  Go to Oregon Officials to learn more about the steps to becoming an Official.

Oregon Swimming Board:
Oregon Swimming LSC is governed by the Board of Directors, Committees, and Team Representatives who set policy/procedures and adhere to the By-Laws.  Volunteer opportunities at this level are posted on the website.  There are always committees to serve on and behind-the-scenes projects that can benefit from your involvement.

Swim Club Operations:
Swim Clubs are the back bone of our organization.  Listed below are some of the volunteer positions that each club needs to be successful:

Social Director:
If you like to organize parties, this is your chance to create fun experiences for everyone.

Fund-Raising:
Raising funds is a priority of every swim program. It could involve anything from a bake sale to landing a sponsor for your club.

Public Relations/Promotion:
Not only do your kids like to see their name in the paper, community members like reading about local events and hearing about positive things that take place.  Those volunteers skilled at public speaking or writing can be useful in this area.

Data Processing/Clerical:
This area may include billing, meet entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, team newsletters, meet results. All of this can be done on the computer and usually from home..

Concessions:
The snack bar at any swim meet can generate tremendous income, especially if items to be sold are donated by the parents or local businesses. Baked goods, fruit and other goodies tend to be very popular.

Board Member:
At the club level volunteers are needed to serve on club board of directors, or booster clubs. The most experienced volunteers are needed here.

Team Representative:
Serve as the club representative or take on another volunteer role within your LSC (Local Swimming Committee).
