Junior Olympic

Coach - Alexander Mareda

This is our top level training group for 12 & Under swimmers. In the Junior Olympic group, swimmers are expected hold themselves to the highest standards when it comes to Discipline (doing what you need to do, when you need to do it, the way it needs to get done), Commitment (attendance, meets, goals), Positive Attitude (coachable and mindset), Pride in Performance (goal setting, introspective/retrospective mindset after performance(s)), Team (holds self and others accountable, commitment to relays). Swimmers are also expected to make the transition from Red/Blue time standards to JAG/Invite & JO level swimming.  A great emphasis will be placed on technique, aerobic and anaerobic training, and race strategy. Swimmers should be able to complete the following test sets –

5 x 100 Freestyle on the 1:30 base

5 x 100 IM on the 1:45 base

Practices are 1.5 hours in length and will include dryland training 3 days a week. There will be a minimum of 5 workouts a week with occasional morning workouts offered.  In addition to attending practice, Junior Olympic athletes are required to attend competitions that the swimmer and the coach determine are best for that athlete. If an athlete is not able to attend an agreed upon meet, the coach must be notified ahead of time by the parent/guardian declining attendance in the TeamUnify website. Swimmers should attend a minimum of 4 workouts out of 6 a week. If a swimmer consistently is not able to meet this attendance requirement, a meeting between the coach, swimmer and parents may be required.
