Fundraising/Team Development

Current Team Development Activity

Wahoos Team Development

(formerly known as Fundraising)*

*The Program name is changing to more accurately describe what the program does.

  • Team Development is a Wahoos membership requirement. Team Development funds go into the Wahoos operating budget and are used for capital expenditures and to enhance the swim team. Previous years' team development improvements included training equipment, computers, and timing equipment. Among items for the future, are new backstroke flags and lane lines. There will be fundraising efforts throughout the season to raise money for non-Wahoos, focused causes. (For example, in the fall of 2016 fundraising was done for breast cancer awareness and the Susan B. Komen foundation.) This kind of optional fundraising does not apply to each family's Team Development obligation.

  • Family Team Development obligation is determined by the squad of the highest level of swimmer as of October 1, 2017 (or the date you join the team if after 10/1/17).

  • If you have more than one swimmer, your obligation is for the highest level swimmer.

  • Each family can meet the Team Development obligation by one of two ways: (1) direct payment on October 1, 2017 OR (2) participating in one or more of several Team Development programs (described below).

  • Beginning September 1, 2017, there will be a Team Development sign up on Team Unify. Every family will have 30 days to indicate whether they will be doing (1) the direct payment on October 1 or (2) the Team Development programs. All families who do not choose one option or the other will be automatically signed up for the direct payment. All families that opt for direct pay, including those families who have to be signed up by the office, will be charged on October 1, 2017. All families who opt to participate in the Team Development programs will have until April 1, 2018 to fulfill their Team Development obligation.

  • Team Development programs run through March 31, 2018.

  • If you choose to participate in the Team Development programs and do not fulfill the Team Development obligation by April 1, 2018, your credit card on file will be billed for the balance due on April 2nd. Additionally, there will be a $50 inconvenience fee.

(If you have fulfilled part of the fundraising obligation, but not the full amount, by the end of March, you can avoid the inconvenience fee by paying the balance by check or credit card in the final days of the fundraising period.)

  • If you choose to participate in the Team Development program and there is no Team Development activity by January 31, 2018, you will be billed for the Team Development obligation on February 1.

  • If your family exceeds your Team Development obligation, 50% of your overage as of April 1, 2018 will be applied to the cost of admission to the banquet.

  • Matching gifts will be credited to the Team Development period in which the family contribution is made.

  • If you participate in Team Development with United Way and the shorter Team Development period for 2017-2018 affects your planning, please email Kristen Bishop (kristen@bishop-house.com) or Suma Iyer (sumapiyer@gmail.com) for an individual plan.
  • If your family joins the team after October 1, 2017, you will pay the 2017-2018 Team Development obligation via direct pay upon registration. You may choose to participate in the Team Development programs for the following Short Course season (2018-2019).
  • If your family is new for the Long Course 2018 season, you will pay 50% of the 2017-2018 fundraising obligation via direct pay upon registration. You may choose to participate in the fundraising programs for the following Short Course season (2018-2019).

  • The 2018-2019 Team Development period will run from April 1, 2018 – March 31, 2019.

Please make sure that you designate “YMCA / Wilton Family - Wahoo Swim Club on the pledge form as the organization you want to receive your donation, or you will not receive Fundraising credit. You will not receive Fundraising Credit for general donations to the local United Way without specific designation to the Wilton Y Wahoos. For those Wahoos families who make donations to the United Way through company programs, you must designate “YMCA / Wilton Family - Wahoo Swim Club as the organization you want to receive your donation. If you cannot designate to specific organizations and specifically to the Wilton Y Wahoos, then you will not be able to receive Fundraising credit. Please make a copy of your company donation receipt which denotes the proper designation to the Wilton Y Wahoos and forward it to Kristen Bishop (kristen@bishop-house.com) or Suma Iyer (sumapiyer@gmail.com) to receive fundraising credit. Please note that Fundraising credit will be applied to the fundraising period based on when the contributions are made (for lump sum donation payments, based on the date of the donation and for payroll deductions, at the time of each deduction throughout the year and prorated to the related Fundraising period). If you do not provide proof of your United Way donation with designation specifically to the Wilton Y Wahoos, then no fundraising credit can be given.

Additional fundraising programsthere may be additional fundraising programs (Wahoo blankets, pies, wreaths) during the year; stay tuned!

Turnover Shop - This donation will benefit the Wahoos as a team. You will not receive individual fundraising credit for this donation as it is impossible for the Turnover Shop to track individual donations by family.

When you donate your items to The Turnover Shop they “consign” them for the Wilton Y Wahoos. This is very easy procedure. You bring your items to the shop and label them either with # 955 or Wilton Y Wahoos.  If the items do not sell or are not suitable for sale, the Turnover shop will send them to organizations that will gladly benefit.  You can donate practically anything.  Visit their website at www.turnovershopwilton.org to learn more.  The Turnover Shop is located in Wilton Town Center just below the Village Market.

Hours: Monday – Friday 10 AM to 4 PM, and Saturday 10 AM to 1 PM.
