The Youngstown Neptunes offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Youngstown Neptunes to offer specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. Neptune practices will be grouped based on swimming ability. This is done so our coaches can provide the best education and exercises for all of our swimmers.

The practice structure and schedule is listed below. New and beginner swimmers should plan to attend the Group 1 practice unless they have been assigned to a different practice group by a coach. Swimmers will be placed into groups by the Head Coach, and can only be moved up by the Head Coach if there is space to accommodate additional swimmers. Please note that the Head Coach reserves the right to close practices, which means that parents, guardians, or family members will not be permitted on the pool deck during practice times. From time to time, the Head Coach may invite parents to observe practices from the bleachers so that they can see the progress that their child is making. 

All swimmers are expected to attend practice on a regular basis. The coaches would like all swimmers to aim for 100% attendance in all groups. Each day, the coaches give valuable instruction and carefully planned workouts. In the world of swimming, there is no such thing as “make up work”. Consistently missing practice will mean missing out on specific work each day. This can seriously hinder a swimmers long term development when it comes to stroke technique and fundamentals. In the situation of a prolonged illness, please notify the Head Coach.  Swimmers are not permitted to attend practices outside of their assigned practice group or attend more than the prescribed number of practices for the group.



2019-20 Practice Structure & Schedule


Group 3

Ability:  Zone and National USA sectional Qualifiers in multiple events.

Times:  M-Th from 7-8:30pm*, Fridays 7-8pm in Deep Pool

*Swimmers should report at 6pm on Wed for dryland practice in TRX area on 2nd floor


Group 2

Ability:  Zone and A/B Level swimmer
Times: Mon-Fri 6-7pm in Deep Pool

*Beginning 9/23/19, practice will be extended until 7:15pm on M/W/F for dryland exercises


Group 1

Ability:  Swimmers who do not qualify for Group 2 or Group 3. Minimum requirement - must be able to swim continuously for 10 minutes and complete a 60-minute practice.

Times: Mon-Fri from 5-6pm* in Deep Pool

*Beginning 9/23/19, practice will be extended until 6:15pm on M/W/F for dryland exercises



**There be NO PRACTICE on the following dates:

10/23/19 - Team pictures and Halloween Party


11/27-11/28/19 (there will be practice on 11/29)




(The Y will be open on 10/31, 11/27, 12/24, and 12/31 if you would still like to swim).
