The 2019 - 2020 Fall Season will begin Monday, Begins September 16th


INDY Swimming

STROKE CLINIC: 

Stroke Clinic:  Stroke Clinic will be held the September 9 – 13 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.  Each day swimmers will focus on skill development for each of the strokes.  $30.00 members

The schedule will be:

  • Monday:            Freestyle
  • Tuesday:            Backstroke
  • Wednesday:       Breaststroke
  • Thursday:          Butterfly
  • Friday:               Individual Medley

Each session will consist of stroke drills, starts, turns and other drills intended on focusing on the development of the focus stroke for the day. 

PIRANHA SWIM TEAM:  The YMCA of Indiana County’s Swim Team is a competitive program for boys and girls ages 5-18. Through instruction, practice, and teamwork, our goal is to develop positive activities that build athletic, social and interpersonal skills in our youth. We encourage hard work, stress a team atmosphere and require having fun along the way! We compete with other Y teams and measure progress by improving on personal best times. Swim team members are required to have a membership to the YMCA and must be able to swim one length of each freestyle and backstroke to participate. All new swimmers must be evaluated by the coaching staff prior to signing up for the swim team. This can be done during the Try It Week, or during the Developmental Team practice. 

Fall/Winter Piranha Season:

Fall/Winter Season begins September 16th (schedule is tentative and could change based on the make-up of the team).  Practice groups should bring workout clothes for dryland workouts on Fridays.

Discounts:   Additional Child: The first child registered for the swim team will be at the highest rate for their appropriate group.  Additional children will be enrolled for their appropriate group minus 15%. 

Payment Schedule:  To make the fees easier for parents to manage, we will permit an automated monthly payment schedule to be established.  Payments may be spread over 3 or 4 months beginning in either August or September but must be completed by January 15, 2020. Regardless of when the swimmer’s actual first day of practice is, the registration fees are not prorated for late sign-ups.

Bus Transportation:  IASD offers transportation on buses going past the YMCA if there is space available. 

Indiana Junior High, Indiana Senior High, Ben Franklin and Eisenhower:  These schools have buses that drive by the Y on their routes.  Thus far IASD has found space for any children attending those schools that need transportation to the Y.   If you wish to request a spot on one of those buses,  your child must be registered and pay (or have a payment schedule established) for swim team by September 9th AND you must send an email to jenvilla@icymca.org with the following info:  child’s name, grade, school and team that they are registered for.  This information will be used to aid in the assignment of bus seats.

East Pike and Horace Mann:  Unfortunately, there are a limited number of spots available year to year for students traveling from East Pike and Horace Mann to the Y.  In the event there are more students who need a ride on the bus than there are seats available, like last year, we will share that information with the PSTPO and use the system they have suggested to determine how to assign those seats to swimmers who need them.  The YMCA can’t guarantee a seat on the bus and does not determine what methodology the PSTPO will use in determining who is assigned a seat.  If you wish to request a spot on one of those buses,  your child must be registered and pay (or have a payment schedule established) for swim team by September 9th AND you must send an email to jenvilla@icymca.org with the following info:  child’s name, grade, school and team that they are registered for.  This information will be used to aid in the assignment of bus seats.

Volunteers:  All parents are expected to volunteer at all home meets, invitationals and fundraisers.  As such, the PSTPO Volunteer Coordinator (Jen Hunter) will assign parent volunteer roles for these events.  Additionally, we recognize and appreciate the commitment our parents make as a part of our team.  Therefore, the PSTPO is in the process of finding a reward system to utilize this season as a thank you to all parent volunteers.  If you are interested in a more substantial role (volunteer coach, PSTPO Officer, PSTPO Committee Chair) please reach out to Robyn Elliott (PSTPO President) at                         or TBD (Y Aquatic Director). PSTPO (Piranha Swim Team Parent’s Organization) hold their monthly meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Y’s conference room – all are encouraged to attend. 

Registration Packets:  Registration packets will be available at the Welcome Center at the Y beginning August 12.  Draft forms, code of conduct and emergency contact info must be completed and turned in before registering.  Draft forms are necessary for PSTPO to be able to charge you for your swimmer’s entry fees for invitationals and championship meets.  You can also pay for caps, swim team special events, etc. through this account. 

If you have an outstanding balance with your meet fees you will not be able to register your swimmer for the fall season until the fees have been paid.
