Swim Groups

 

The Jakarta AquaDragons Swim Team offers training to Beginner, Developmental and Squad swimmers based on age, ability and training commitment. Swimmers are expected to meet the respective requirements for each group before being considered. It is our goal to challenge and develop each swimmer individually to help them achieve their full potential both in and out of the pool.

I) OTTERS LEARN TO SWIM 

STAR 1

This is our introductory Learn to Swim level. Swimmers must be 5 years of age (or in EY3 or it's equivalent) and be able to use washroom facilities by themselves if participating on weekdays. 

Training commitment: 50 minutes, 1x per week

STAR 2

Swimmers must be able to demonstrate basic water awareness and breath control and be able to float on both front and back.

Training commitment: 50 minutes, 1x per week

STAR 3

Swimmers will have more confidence in the water and be able to glide, kick, propel themselves in the water and recover from a back or front floating position without assistance.

Training commitment: 50 minutes, 1x per week

STAR 4

Swimmers must be comfortable jumping into deep water and treading in place for 15 seconds, rolling from front to back to front and propelling themselves in the water on front and back for 7-15m.

Training commitment: 50 minutes, 1x per week

STAR 5

Swimmers must be able to breathe to the side with at least 4 breaths when swimming front crawl for at least 15m or 1 width of the pool, perform basic drills to improve their strokes and begin kick interval training for all strokes (Fly, Back, Breast, Free).

Training commitment: 50 minutes, 1x per week

II) DEVELOPMENTAL TEAMS

** Denotes that strokes must be performed to the standards set by the Jakarta AquaDragons Swim Team

KOMODOS 1

Although strokes need not be performed to AquaDragons standards, 100 m of non-stop swimming, including 25 m of freestyle and 25 m of backstroke, as well as an ability to swim in deep water are the minimum requirements for acceptance on the team. Swimmers must also be a minimum of 6 years of age.

Training commitment: 2 x per week, Total of 2.3 hours per week (50 min; 1.5 hour)

KOMODOS 2

The following are the minimum requirements:

  • Swim 200m continuously
  • Swim 50m Freestyle or 50m Backstroke
  • Swim 25m Freestyle** in :30 sec or better (25m Dragon Dash "Blue" time)
  • Swim 25m Backstroke** in :35 sec or better (25m Dragon Dash "Blue" time)
  • Swim 25m Breaststroke with proper coordination

Swimmers are expected to attend AquaDragons internal meets and are invited to attend city wide developmental meets. Swimmers may also attend the Fall Invitational and AquaDragons Open if 9 years of age or older and upon approval from their coaches.

Training commitment: 3 x per week, Total 4 hours (75 min; 75 min; 1.5 hour)

KOMODOS 3

The following are the minimum requirements:

  • Swim 200m continuously
  • 4 x 50m kick/swim, IMO
  • Swim 50m Freestyle** or 50m Backstroke**
  • Swim 25m Freestyle** in :25 sec or better (25m Dragon Dash "Gold" time)
  • Swim 25m Backstroke** in :30 sec or better (25m Dragon Dash "Gold" time)
  • Swim 25m Breaststroke** in :30 sec or better (25m Dragon Dash "Gold" time)

Swimmers are expected to attend AquaDragons internal meets and are invited to attend city wide developmental meets. Swimmers may also attend the Fall Invitational and AquaDragons Open if 9 years of age or older and upon approval from their coaches.

Training commitment: 3 x per week, Total 4 hours (75 min; 75 min; 1.5 hour)

BRONZE 

The following are the minimum requirements for the Bronze  group:

  • Swim 400m non-stop swimming
  • Swim 100m Freestyle** with at least 25m bilateral breathing
  • Swim 100m Individual Medley
  • Swim 2 x (4 x 50m) - i)FR, ii) BA, iii) BR, iv)25m FL and 25m FR, RI 10 sec, 1 min between sets
  • 3 of 4 of the following 50m Dragon Dash Gold times
    • Swim 25m Butterfly in :25 sec or better
    • Swim 50m Backstroke in :50 sec or better
    • Swim 50m Breaststroke in :55 sec or better
    • Swim 50m Freestyle in :45 sec or better

Swimmers are expected to attend AquaDragons internal meets and are invited to attend city wide meets. Swimmers may also attend the Fall Invitational and AquaDragons Open if 9 years of age or older and upon approval from their coaches.

Training commitment: 4 x per week, Total 6.5 hours (1.5 hour; 1.5 hour; 1.5 hour; 2 hours)

SWIMFIT 

This group is for individuals who require stroke improvement, would like to swim to maintain their fitness or to complement the training benefits of other sports or who are not able to commit the time required for a squad group. The SwimFit program will provide pool time and a coach who will supervise and prepare organized swim workouts. Swimmers must be able to swim continuously for 400 m. Participation in AquaDragons swim meets is encouraged.

Training availability: up to 6 x per week, Total up to 6 hours (1 hour sessions)

MASTERS

This is a newly created group for adults (25 years of age and older) who wish to swim for Fitness or for Triathlon preparation. This program will provide pool time and a coach who will supervise and prepare organized swim workouts. Swimmers must be able to swim continuously for 400 m. Participation in AquaDragon home meets is included at no charge.

Training availability: up to 6 x per week, Total up to 6 hours (1 hour sessions)

 

III) SQUAD TEAMS

All strokes, starts and turns must be performed to  FINA standards.

SILVER

The following are the minimum requirements for the Silver group:

  • 4 of 5 of the following 100m Dragon Dash  Blue times
    • Swim 100m Individual Medley in 1:45 or better
    • Swim 50m Butterfly in :55 or better
    • Swim 100m Backstroke in 1:45 or better
    • Swim 100m Breaststroke in 1:50 or better
    • Swim 100m Freestyle in 1:35 or better

Swimmers are expected to attend swim meets held in Jakarta (both home and away). Swimmers should be in Middle School.

Training commitment: 4 x per week, Total 7 hours (1.5 hour; 1.5 hour; 2 hour; 2 hour)

GOLD

The following are the minimum requirements for the Gold group:

  • 4 of 5 of the following 100m Dragon Dash Gold times
    • Swim 100m Individual Medley in 1:35 or better
    • Swim 50m Butterfly in :50 or better
    • Swim 100m Backstroke in 1:35 or better
    • Swim 100m Breaststroke in 1:40 or better
    • Swim 100m Freestyle in 1:25 or better
  • 200m IM at 3:15 or faster (Girls); 3:05 or faster (Boys)

Swimmers are expected to attend swim meets held in Jakarta (both home and away). Swimmers will be in High School.

Training commitment: 5 x per week, Total 9 hours (1.5 hour; 1.5 hour; 1.5 hour; 2 hour; 2.5 hour)

PLATINUM

Swimmers in the Platinum group are expected to attain Naga Challenge times and attend 6 sessions per week. The following times are expected:

  • 400m Freestyle at 5:20 (Girls), 5:00 (Boys) or faster
  • 200m Individual Medley at 3:00 (Girls), 2:50 (Boys) or faster

Swimmers are expected to attend all meets.

Training commitment: up to 8 x per week, Total up to 14.5 hours (1 hr morning sessions; 2 hour weekday sessions; 2.5 hour Saturday sessions)
