Age Group Teams (Competitive)

COMPETITIVE YOUTH PROGRAM

Our sport is governed by the Rules of Unites States Synchronized Swimming & it’s international governing body, FINA.  Coaches place athletes in the categories where they feel they will do best and have appropriate growth and challenge within the sport.  These decisions are based on many factors.

Novice Squad

This is the beginning level that offers training for swimmers of all ages (up to 20) and abilities. Athletes get their first experience with competition at this level.  Novice has the fewest practice hours but still offers skill development with age specific training for all athletes. It is geared toward challenging and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. Most new members to the sport begin at the Novice level at practice and competitions before joining a higher level team. This team competes only in the local area and has 1-4 competitions during the season. This group is a step above our Olympic Wave program.

Novice swimmers compete with Figures & Technical Routines:

  • Four figures which are sets of defined body positions and the movement (transitions) between those body positions.
  • Technical routines are set to music and have required elements included.
  • Athletes are usually in their first-third year of the sport depending upon age and other factors.
  • Smaller age groupings in competition - usually local competition only.

Cost: $120.00/month + THPRD Mandated Lane Fee: $74/month

Intermediate Squad

This squad offers training for swimmers of all ages (up to 20) and ability levels.  Intermediate offers skill development and age specific training for athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. Some new members to the sport begin can begin on the Intermediate squad. This team competes primarily in the Pacific Northwest, but at times will travel to other meets in the West Coast. This group is a step above our Novice program

Intermediates compete with Figures and Technical Routines:

  • Two figure groups, A & B, coach determines.
  • Technical routines set to music with required elements; limited lifts permitted in some team routines.
  • Athletes are usually in their first-third year of the sport depending upon age and other factors.
  • Smaller age groupings in competition - local, regional and sometimes zone competition.

Cost $156.00/month + THPRD Mandated Lane Fee: $74/month

12-Under Age Group Squad

Age Group competition is the beginning of elite athlete training. This group also competes within the Pacific Northwest, West Coast and at National competitions. This is the team which develops skills to move them to a higher level of competitions. Flexibility is important, this group is recommended to work on hyper-extension of their already flat splits.  Coaches may decide to move a swimmer younger than 12 years up to the next age group.
