Group Swim Lessons

Our goal is to make quality swimming lessons more accessible to the community.

* Swimmer to instructor ratio 3-4:1.

* One the first day of lessons, if you child has not been in our program before we will test your child and place them in the appropriate level.

* Levels include Beginner, Beginner Plus, Intermediate, Intermediate Plus and Advanced. Descriptions can be found under - Program Facts - Aquatics Program Levels

*Swimmers must be at least 3 years old and potty trained.

*If you miss a class, please contact the Aquatics Director for make up options. Make ups are based off class availability. We will try our best to accommodate your needs, but we may not always be able to provide a make up. We will only accommodate 1 make up per person/per session.

*Refunds will only be given if the CAC cancels the class.

*At the completion of each Session your child will be evaluated on the progress learned in his/her class.

Registration Process
You will find all days/times listed under the "session". You will sign up for the specific day/time you want. Classes are scheduled for once a week, but you are welcome/encouraged to sign up for more than one day a week. This is different from previous years. We hope having the option to choose your combination of days will help tailor your swim lessons around your schedule.

Stroke Technique

Stroke Technique is the next class after a swimmer has completed Group Swim Lessons.

*Swimmers must be at least 6 years old. Anyone under the age of 6 must be evaluated by aquatics staff before being allowed into the class.

*Participants must be able to swim 25 yards of both freestyle and backstroke (without help) and are comfortable swimming in deep water.

*Swimmer to instructor ratio 1:8

*Due to school and club events, some class days will be cancelled. If we know cancellations early enough, we will automatically prorate the class for that session.

*Swimmers will be evaluated on the first day of class. If we feel your child is not ready for the Stroke Development program we will notify you and ask that they be placed into the Group Swim Lessons.

*At the completion of each Session your child will be evaluated on the progress learned in his/her class.

*If you miss a class, please contact the Aquatics Director for make up options. Make ups are based off class availability. We will try our best to accommodate your needs, but we may not always be able to provide a make up. We will only accommodate 1 make up per person/per session.

Swim Club Prep

Swim Club Prep is a class designed for swimmers 8 years to 14 years. Anyone under the age of 8 must be evaluated by aquatics staff before being allowed into the class. During this one hour class, swimmers will be swimming a swim team type workout to build endurance and work on stroke technique. Swimmers who sign up for the class should be able to swim for the full hour.

If after the first day we do not feel your swimmer is ready for this class, we will notify you about options for Stroke Development or Group Lessons.
Swimmers must be able to perform the following
- 50 yards of freestyle
- 50 yards of backstroke
- 25 yards of butterfly
- 25 yards of breaststroke

Club Conditoning

This program is a hour and a half long and will be geared towards a swim team workout. Drills will be used to continue to perfect technique and endurance will be worked into each practice. Swimmers will also get the chance to work on starts and turns.
These practices are geared to help swimmers stay in swimming shape for the swim club or their summer swim teams.
Some dryland will be incorporated into the workout.
Swimmers should be able to do the following
75-100 yards Freestyle
75-100 yards Backstroke
50-75 yards Breaststroke
50-75 yards Butterfly

Private and Semi Private Lessons

Private Swim Lessons: We are offering Private swimming lessons where swimmer to instructor ratio 1:1 (private).

Semi Private Swim Lessons: We are offer Semi Private swimming lessons where swimmer to instructor ratio is 2:1 ( we DO NOT set you up with a second swimmer, you must make arrangements with family or a friend). When registering, EACH person must register and pay for the lessons.

Lessons are purchased by 2 or 6 classes and lessons are 30 minutes. If you want your lessons to last longer than 30 minutes that can arranged. Your instructor can not begin lessons until registration is complete. Once registered, an instructor will contact you to begin lessons. You can renew your classes at any time by bringing a check or cash to the instructor at the end of the current set or registering again online.

*All classes are based on your availability, instructor availability, and pool availability.*

*Private and Semi Private lessons must be used within a year that they are purchased.*

Lessons are typically scheduled: schedule is subject to change based on pool availability
Monday-Friday 4:30pm-8pm (Prime Life)
Saturday 9am-1pm (Prime Life) or 1pm-4pm Carmel High School)
Sunday 8am-4pm (Carmel High School)

Homeschool Swimming: Stroke Development

We are offering a non-competitive swimming for anyone who is interested. This is NOT a swim team because we do not compete, but participants do practice all four major competitive strokes, learn flip turns, dives from the block, and we have mock races. We do have fun days and participate in relay races within the group.

Swimmers must complete the following requirements:

Must be able to swim and be comfortable in deep water.
Swimmers should be able to swim the length of the pool.
Swimmers will learn and practice the four major competitive strokes. They will work on building their endurance


*Classes are offered at Carmel High School, you do not need to be a Carmel resident to attend these classes.

Is your swimmer not ready for the big group? We do offer a 30 minute mini group lesson for swimmers who are not ready to swim the length of the pool and need a more hands on experience. These classes can be found under Homeschool: Group Lessons

Please register your swimmer (s) prior to the start of each session. Sessions run 3-4 weeks at a time.

When registering, you register for each day of the week you would like to attend. You can attend more than one day a week. If you have to miss a certain day during the week, you can ask to come a different day, but you MUST email the aquatics director first to make sure we are having class on the day you want to come.


Homeschool Swimming: Group Lesson

This is an extension of the homeschool swimming: stroke development.

This class is designed for swimmers that need more hands one help in the water.

The instructor will work on basic water safety skills and build it up to swimming the full length of the pool to be ready for the big group.

Classes are offered at Carmel High School, you do not need to be a Carmel resident to attend these classes.

Please register your swimmer (s) prior to the start of each session. Sessions run 3-4 weeks at a time.

When registering, you register for each day of the week you would like to attend. You can attend more than one day a week. If you have to miss a certain day during the week, you can ask to come a different day, but you MUST email the aquatics director first to make sure we are having class on the day you want to come.

Lifeguard Certification Class (Full Class)

The Carmel Aquatics Center is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Class.

In this class, you will receive certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Lifeguarding, and First Aid.

Requirements for the class
Must be 15 years or older to take the class
Must be able to swim 300 yards
Must be able to retrieve a 10lb brick from bottom of pool
Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes

Students will receive a book at the beginning of the class to use throughout the class. Students should bring a swim suit and towel to each class.

Participants will learn in water and out of water skills.

To pass the course, participants must pass ALL skills tests (skills are pass or fail) and score 80% or better on both written tests. Participants must pass both the skills tests and written tests to pass the course and receive certification status.

If the participant passes the course, the certification is good for two years. Every two years lifeguard must get recertified.

Lifeguard RECERTIFICATION Class

This class is for CURRENT American Red Cross Lifeguards.

Participants must show proof of their current lifeguard certification.

Certifications that have expired after the 30 day mark will NOT be excepted and participants will have to take the full lifeguard course.

There will be some review of course materials, but participants should come to the class prepared for all skills (in water and out of water) to be tested, plus take the written tests again.

Skills are Pass or Fail.
Written tests: there are two written tests and participants must score 80% or better on both tests.

To pass the course, participants must pass both the skills tests and the written tests.

Triathlon Clinics

The Carmel Swim Club is pleased to offer the 2019 Carmel Sprint Triathlon Swim Clinics


Stroke Instruction for Triathletes (all levels)
Instruction is geared to swimmers who would like to learn how to swim a proper front crawl (Freestyle) stroke. This class will offer the chance to work on freestyle drills for improved technique and efficiency. These sessions will focus on general stroke mechanics and proper breathing. The Freestyle stroke practiced during the clinics will help to not only build your endurance for the 400 meter portion of the Carmel Sprint Triathlon, but will allow you to swim a better more effective stroke
in years to come.
