Moon Aqua Club Lessons

Moon Aqua Club- Learn 2 Swim Coach

Moon Aqua Club- Swim Lesson Director

Diving Coach Vernon Yenick began his competitive diving career somewhat late as a freshman at Churchill high school which is now Woodland Hills. He was always as a kid interested in competitive swimming and gymnastics so diving was the perfect blend of the two.

He excelled quickly and by sophomore year he was asked to join the Pitt Aquatic Club which is coached by his mentors Julian and Doe Krug. Julian was named NCAA coach of the year in 2016 and has won Big East conference and ACC conference coach of the year numerous times.

The last two years in high school proved to be winning years as he went on to final at the PIAA State high school championships his junior and senior years narrowly missing the gold as a senior and winning the silver by under a couple points. Taking second only to his close friend Nunzio Esposto who was an Olympic coach in 2016 and continues to head up the Duke Diving program.

He qualified for two junior Olympic / USA Diving national championships as a teen and won a scholarship to Pitt in 1985. At Pitt he was a four time Big East finalist in both the one meter and three meter springboards and placed well in the eastern seaboard championships with a silver medal on three meter his senior year. His senior year was decorated with many dual meet wins and a 20th place finish at the 1989 NCAA Division 1 Diving Championships in the three meter event.

After college he assisted in coaching Emory University in Atlanta during the 1991-1992 season, and then moved to NYC to work as a photo stylist in the fashion industry. After a decade of not coaching he realized that it was his passion and that he missed diving greatly. So he started back assisting at the Pitt Aquatic Club and in 2008 took on the Fox Chapel team of one diver - JB Kolod Who went on to great success at the University of Virginia becoming the record holder during freshman year and beating his own record each successive year. That FC team is now 13 kids strong with the three time WPIAL champion Jonah Cagley and PIAA state silver medalist David Manelis. In 2015 he also took on Oakland and Central Catholic high schools and now has WPIAL qualifiers on those teams as well. Last year in the 2018-19 season his Central Catholic diver Nolan Jacob narrowly missed qualifying for the state diving championships by one place taking 6th where the top five qualified. Oakland Catholic?s Ava Christy qualified for the state diving championships in 2019 and was a semi finalist. Vernon loves the sport of diving passionately and will always strive to have his athletes dive their best through focused and disciplined workouts that translate into success in everyday life.
Vernon resides in Edgewood PA.
