JUNIOR GROUPS

PCC JUNIOR GROUP INFORMATION

The three PCC Junior Groups (Green, Blue & Silver) offer focused instruction in all four competitive strokes, measured endurance training and meet preparation for qualified swimmers between Kindergarten and 8th grade. 

All Junior Group swimmers are expected to be active members of the swim club by attending at least 3 practices per week and competing in recommended swim meets, about once per month. 

JUNIOR GREEN: Grades 3 & Younger. 

General Objective

Prerequisites:

  1. Can focus in a larger group setting.
  2. Shows respect for coaches and teammates.
  3. Shows coachability.
  4. Can perform all 4 types of kicking and can hold consistent technique in 25 yards of all strokes.

Growth Focus:

  1. Great body line and head position while kicking and swimming.
  2. Great kicking for all 4 strokes.
  3. Consistent stroke technique for race distances.
  4. Every day growth of Basics: Stream lines, breathing patterns, legal turns.
  5. Prepared for Practice: on time, with equipment, mentally ready to learn. 
  6. Basic knowledge of intervals and lane etiquette.

Stroke Objectives

  1. Achieve success in IMR events – 50’s of all 4 strokes. 
  2. Introduction to and experience the 10&U IMX events - 100's of all 4 strokes, 200IM, 200 free. 
  3. Experience and experiment with the 500 FR.

Meet Prep Goals

  1. Begin to race with technical goals, as directed to the group by their coach.
  2. To learn preparedness for meets: food, drinks, appropriate clothes, suit, goggles, caps, etc.
  3. Coach-Athlete Communication at meets before and after races.
  4. Learning proper team spirit and teammate support.

Mental Training

  1. Coach-Parent communication with Parent-Swimmer exercises.
  2. Respect of Coach, Teammates and Facility.
  3. Sportsmanship at Meets.
  4. Ownership of Swimming: Awareness of daily instructions and goals.

Next Group Track

      Junior BLUE or Age Group GREEN  

 

JUNIOR BLUE: Grades 4-5. 

General Objective

Prerequisites:

  1. Proficient in all 4 strokes.
  2. Kick driven body lines, efficient and consistent.
  3. Can focus in a larger group setting.
  4. Shows respect for coaches and teammates.
  5. Prepared for practice.
  6. Mastered Basics: Stream lines, breathing patterns, legal turns.

Growth Focus:

  1. Consistency of stroke technique at different speeds at practice.
  2. Introduction to aerobic sets.

Stroke Objective

  1. Compete in all IMX events. 
  2. Compete in all IMR events. 

Meet Prep Goals

  1. Racing with technical goals, as directed to the group by their coach.

Mental Training

  1. Coach-Parent communication with Coach-Athlete communication exercises.
  2. Ownership of Swimming: daily and weekly awareness of practice & competition goals. 
  3. Consistency of racing basics at meets and practices: Streamlines, legal appropriate turns, breathing patterns, etc.

Next Group Track

           Age Group GRN, Age Group BLUE or Junior BLUE

 

JUNIOR SILVER. Grades 6-8.  

General Objectives

Prerequisites:

  1. Proficient in all 4 strokes, but be strong in at least 1 or 2.
  2. Dedication to practice commitment.
  3. Monthly meet attendance.

Growth Focus:

  1. To learn to be coachable, to focus and and to socialize without disruption.
  2. To take ownership of their swimming: technique, times, goals.
  3. Develop consistency in physical effort and learning.

Stroke Objectives

  1. Achieve success in 50 & 100 races/200 FR & 200IM.
  2. Begin to develop a Primary Race or Primary Stroke focus.
  3. Expand competition repertoire to more challenging and/or longer events. 
  4. Compete in IMX events.

Meet Prep Goals

  1. Seasonal Race-Planning including time, goal splits, and technical details.
  2. Mid-Season racing goals including race plan, goal splits and technical details.

Mental Training

  1. Ownership of Swimming: weekly and meet to meet (monthly) awareness of growth and learning goals.
  2. Introduction of Coach-Athlete Communication with Parental Involvement and cooperation.
  3. Learn to be a great teammate through lane etiquette, work ethic and appropriate delivery of communication.
