Club Director/ Head Senior Group Coach

Coach Hembree began his swimming career at the age of ten swimming for NASA.  He continued with the club until graduating high school in 2005. During his high school career Coach Hembree was a 4 year all conference selection as well as a member of the 2004 IHSAA State runner up 400 Freestyle relay. In 2005 he was selected as team captain by his teammates and went on to finish fifth in the 200 Individual Medley and top 16 in the 500 freestyle at the IHSAA State championships. Coach Hembree was also selected as the team’s mental attitude award winner his senior year.

After high school Coach Hembree continued his swimming career at Ball State University while pursuing a teaching degree in technology education. While a member of the Cardinal’s swim team he was a four year Mid-American Conference qualifier and set the second fastest time in school history in the 400 individual medley. During his Ball state swimming career Coach Hembree received honors as the a four year Distance Freestyle high point award recipient,  Individual Medley high point award recipient, Outstanding Freshman award recipient and was part of the Ball State 800 free relay that finished 3rd at the Mid-American Championships.

After Graduating from Ball State with a Bachelor’s of Science in Technology Education Coach Hembree took a teaching job and the head women’s swim coach job with Elkhart Community Schools. He led the Elkhart Central Women’s Swim team to a 3rd place finish at sectionals and was named sectional coach of the year. During his time in Elkhart Coach Hembree was responsible for the formation of the Blue Wave Aquatic Club, now Elkhart United Aquatics. In 2011 Coach Hembree became the Engineering Technology Department Chair at Northridge High School, teaching industrial technology and engineering courses. He also took over as the NASA senior group assistant coach and he is the assistant high school swim coach. Since that time Coach Hembree has taken on many different responsibilities with the club team including being the webmaster and the entry chair.

Coach Hembree is a USA Swimming certified coach holding certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and Safety Training for Swim Coaches. He is also a member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) ,where he has obtained a Level 2 certification, and the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA).

Coach Hembree is married to Brittany and they have 3 children Madox, Hudson, and Peighton.

Head Age Group Coach/ Star Z and Gold Lead Coach

Dan swam competitively from 6th grade through his high school career at Carroll High School. Upon completion he was asked to coach by his former high school coach. Dan served on the FWST coaching staff for 11 years and starting with 10 and unders until he became Head age group coach in 2011. In this time FWST Age Group State Team won the Spirit Award 2 times. Dan has been selected to be a member of the Team Indiana coaching staff at the 2016 Mega Zone Meet, 2013, 2014, 2015 Zone Meets, 2013-2016 Mid States Meets. Also he has been on staff at many camps and clinics hosted by Indiana Swimming and USA Swimming. Dan has coached numerous swimmers to Age Group State medals and several State Champions/IAR Record Holders. He was also nominated for Indiana Age Group Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2016.

Dan has been happily married to Emma Herber for 3+ years and enjoys classic car restorations, channeling his inner geek, and coffee.

Assistant Group Coach

Coach Troyer started swimming competitively at the age of 8 after hearing about NASA on the York Elementary School announcements. He was among the first swimmers to swim all the way through school under Coach Keller, and a member of the first Northridge High school swimming team to win the sectional/conference title in high school. He was a member of many championship teams during his time swimming, and soon after he began coaching for NASA, where he has been a coach or assistant coach to almost every athlete in the program for the past 12 years.

Alpha, Beta, Delta Lead Coach

Carrie swam competitively in Illinois from the age of ten on through high school, college and beyond on the Chicago Masters Swim Team and later in life on the Harbor Hurricane Masters Swim Team. She also Participated in the Chicago Triathlon Swimming in Lake Michigan as a member of a relay. Soon after this Naper Olympic Health Club hired Carrie as the swim instructor for their triathlon training program. She furthered her triathlon experience by working as a volunteer in the popular Danskin Triathlon in Naperville, Illinois. Carrie completed this course five times in a row as she swam alongside the athletes helping anyone who needed assistance during the swim..

Besides competition Carrie has several years coaching experience as a swim instructor, Swim Coach and assistant Swim Coach with both age group and park district swim teams in Evanston, Niles, Morton Grove and Oak Park, Illinois. At the height of her previous coaching experience Carrie was one of two coaches with TOPS, the swim team placed second at the Illinois Age Group State Swim Meet. In Addition to coaching she was an Aquatic Director for the YMJC Day Camp. This position required writing the skill sets for all the levels of swim lessons, implementing swim lesson stations, as well as directing and teaching all the instructors the skills required to pass each level.

Carrie volunteered as a park district swim meet official for several years while her four children swam competitively. Carrie's son Steven Van Deventer continued swimming at Naperville Central High School where he was a member of the their Illinois State Record Medley Relay Team. He continued to set records during his time at Occidental College in Los Angeles and won the 2013 and 2014 Divsion II national Championship in the 200 Breaststroke.

Carrie graduated from UIC, University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education K-9 focusing on Math, P.E. and Science. With her last child in college she moved to Goshen, Indiana in late August 2014 and was hired as a paraprofessional (special needs assistant) at Northridge Middle School in January of 2015. Carrie is a math tutor as well.

While early morning lap swimming at Northridge High School Carrie met several of the NASA swim Coaches which led to her teaching swim lesson for Coach Grace before starting as an assistant swim coach for NASA in the fall of 2015
