FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS

1) WHAT ARE THE COSTS AND FEES?

Early Bird Registration is $200 per swimmer and includes your swimmer's team swim cap and t-shirt.  Coaching fees, swim league fees, facility fees, and general costs associated with conducting a summer swim program (such as swimmer awards and other swimmer provisions) are also included in your registration fee.  For families that register three (3) or more swimmers, the third and each additional swimmer's registration fee is $95.

Costs increase to $225 and $115, respectively, after Early Bird Registration has concluded and the regular registration period begins.  For the 2019 season, Early Bird Registration begins on April 1 and ends on April 30. Registering by April 30 guarantees your swimmer a personalized KSC swim capGeneral Registration begins on May 1 and ends when we reach our predetermined capacity of swimmers or May 30, whichever comes first.

All requests for registration fee refunds must be made in writing on or before June 3, 2019. Registration fee funds are subject to an administrative fee of $35.00 that will be withheld from the refunded amount.  After June 3, 2019, registration fees are non-refundable.

In addition, we require a $50 deposit to be held against fulfillment of our 10 Service Hours requirement per family. We will collect the $50 deposit at the time of registration and we will automatically refund the $50 deposit at the conclusion of the 2019 season (7/31/19) unless your family fails to serve 10 volunteer service hours by July 30, 2019.

2)  CAN ANYONE REGISTER OR DOES MY SWIMMER HAVE TO TRY OUT?

Kingfish Swim Club is in Division “A”, the most competitive division of the Prince-Mont Swim League. KSC has also grown to be one of the largest swim clubs in the league. As a result, the 2019 season registration will open according to the following guidelines: Registration is open to: (1) All returning 2018 Kingfish swimmers and their siblings, and (2) Any 12 and under swimmers pending coach's assessment and approval via our preseason clinic.

**Please contact KSC directly via email at kingwho.kingfish@gmail.com to discuss enrollment of your 12 and under swimmer prior to registration if you are new to the club.

3)  WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SWIMMERS ON THE TEAM/IS THERE A REGISTRATION CAP?

Yes, we will close registration once we have reached a pre-determined capacity or May 30, 2019, whichever comes first. As much as we dislike turning kids away, we strive to keep our registration numbers safe and manageable. The Executive Board reserves the right to make all final registration decisions on behalf of the team.

4) WHAT IS THE PRESEASON CLINIC?

The preseason clinic is designed for swimmers who have been out of the water for some period of time and wish to refresh their exisiting swim skills and condition their bodies in preparation for summer competitive swimming. The clinic is also beneficial to our younger swimmers who can make it from one end of the pool to the other but need to refine their stroke technique.

5) HOW DOES THE "REFER-A-FRIEND" PROGRAM WORK?

For every new swimmer that you refer, you will receive a $25.00 referral award.  The new swimmer must register with the program and must not have obtained a refund prior to the start of the season.  In addition, the new swimmer must provide your name in the "Referred By" field in the online registration process.  And, of course, you must also be registered for the season and must not have obtained a refund prior to the start of the season. Once registration closes, we will automatically process the $25.00 referral award(s), which will be applied to the account you used at registration.  We appreciate your enthusiasm for the team and it is our privilege to provide this token of gratitude!

6)  DOES THE TEAM PRACTICE AND/OR PARTICIPATE IN SWIM MEETS IF IT IS RAINING?

Yes.  Consistent with Prince-Mont Swim League rules, Kingfish Swim Club practices and participates in swim meets when it rains, unless there is lightning, torrential rain, high winds or other hazardous conditions that could impact the safety of our swimmers.  Staff will make every effort possible to contact parents about event cancellations due to hazardous weather conditions. 7) WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY SWIMMER CANNOT ATTEND PRACTICE OR SWIM IN A SCHEDULED MEET?

Please notify the Head Coach as soon as possible both in person and in writing.  Our swimmers are the heart of our program and we believe each and every swimmer plays a valuable role in our team’s success, so we need to know of absences as soon as possible in order to plan accordingly.

8) WHAT SHOULD MY SWIMMER KEEP IN HIS/HER SWIM BAG?

Your swimmer should always have two pairs of goggles, two swim caps, a swimsuit and a towel, each clearly marked with your swimmer’s name.  Other suggested items include sunscreen and bottled water.

9) WHERE CAN I BUY THE TEAM SUIT?

Sport Fair will again supply our team suits this year.  Sport Fair will be on site at our Season Kick-Off Meeting on April 5, 2019 to custom fit and prepare your swimmer's suit and you will leave the team meeting with your swimmer's logo suit! If you do not purchase your suit on April 5 your suit can be ordered by contacting Sport Fair at 703-524-9500.  The team suit is required in order to swim in Kingfish dual meets.

10) WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO SPEAK WITH THE COACHES ABOUT MY SWIMMER’S PROGRESSION?

During practices, our coaches are focused exclusively on swim instruction.  Thank you for allowing them to maintain that focus during practices.  Please reach out to the coaches after practice or contact them via e-mail to schedule a mutually agreeable time to discuss your swimmer’s progress.

11) HOW DO YOU DETERMINE WHICH EVENTS MY SWIMMER WILL SWIM?

The coaching staff determines a swimmer’s meet preparedness based on observations during practice.  Competitive line-ups are established on a weekly basis and communicated to parents and swimmers on the Thursdays prior to Saturday meets.

12) HOW DO KSC BOARD ELECTIONS WORK?

The Board of Directors consists of a minimum of seven and a maximum of 11 members, each of whom serves on a volunteer basis throughout the year to help conduct the business and administrative affairs of Kingfish Swim Club.  Officers include the President and Vice-President (who must have served on the Board for a minimum of one year) and the Secretary and Treasurer, each of whom is elected by the Kingfish Swim Club parent body. Terms are generally two years in length, though the Board maintains a staggering plan that allows for shorter or longer terms to ensure a balance of experience.  The Board may also appoint current and prior Board members to officer positions where necessary to ensure a balance of experience and effectuate succession planning.

Board elections are held annually at the season banquet/wrap party.  If uncontested (i.e., the number of candidates seeking to join does not exceed the number of open spaces, or only one person is seeking an officer position), voting is held by a show of hands; if contested, ballots are used.  Parents interested in joining the Board are encouraged to express interest via email at kingwho.kingfish@gmail.com.

13)  WHAT IS THE CLUB'S CONTACT INFORMATION?

You can contact us by email at kingwho.kingfish@gmail.com; or by contacting current Board President, Alvin Lee at alvinleedds@gmail.com
