WHAT IS WATER POLO?
Among the oldest Olympic team sports for men and the newest for women, water polo combines elements of soccer, basketball, wrestling, hockey, and swimming. It requires strength, speed, and stamina, as well as teamwork, and quick reaction time. Olympic water polo players are said by many to be the best-conditioned athletes in the world and many Olympic and Collegiate SWIMMERS credit water polo training for enhancing their strength and quickness.
Although youth water polo is relatively new to North Carolina, thousands of boys and girls of all ages compete locally, regionally, and nationally throughout the United States. There are many opportunities to play water polo at the collegiate club level in the southeast and many opportunities to play varsity water polo in other parts of the country.
