WEST Swim Goal

It is the goal of WEST Swim Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities in a safe competitive swim environment.

Tryouts for WEST

All swimmers must be at least 6 years of age and be able to:

  • Swim 25 yards unassisted Freestyle
  • Swim 25 yards unassisted Backstroke
  • Dive from the side and safely swim in the deep end
  • Listen and follow directions
  • Focus for 30 minutes

 

RED Group Goal

The RED Group introduces swimmers to the four competitive strokes, drills and skills focusing on stroke technique.

*To promote from Red Group to White Group swimmers must:

  • Swim all four competitive strokes.
  • Understand and execute basic drills and skills.
  • Listen attentively and follow directions for 45 minutes.
  • Have RED group coach recommendation.
  • There must be pool lane space available as per the Head Coach

 

WHITE Group Goal

The WHITE Group goal is to develop:

  • A legal 100 IM.
  • A continuous 200 free.
  • Consistency in all starts, turns, breakouts and finishes.
  • Ready the swimmer for a 90-minute practice of 2000+ yards.

*To promote from White Group to Blue group swimmers must:

  • Legally swim a 100 IM.
  • Demonstrate mental and physical readiness for a 90-minute practice of 2000+ yards.
  • Consistently swim all starts, breakouts, turns and finishes correctly.
  • Demonstrate a continuous 200 free with starts, breakouts & flip turns.
  • Be age 9 or older; a younger swimmer can be promoted with Head Coach permission.
  • There must be pool lane space available as per the Head Coach.

 

BLUE Group Goal

The BLUE Group fine-tunes strokes and identifies strengths. Recommended attendance is at least 3 practices per week. The BLUE Group goal is to develop an understanding of:

  • Main set
  • Warm-up
  • Intervals
  • Drill set
  • Kick set
  • Pull set
  • Cool-down

As well as:

  • Develop legal strokes 100% of the time & fine tune strokes.
  • Help swimmers to attain less than 1:00 on all 50’s.
  • Mentally and physically prepare swimmers for a 2-hour practice of 3,000+ yards.

*To promote from Blue Group to Silver group swimmers must:

  • Swim legal strokes 100% of the time.
  • Demonstrate mental and physical readiness for a 2-hour practice.
  • Attend full practice three times a week.
  • Swim less than 1:00 on all 50's.
  • Swim 10 x 50 yards stroke on coach interval
  • Be age 11 or older; a younger swimmer can be promoted with Head Coach permission AND if he/she has attained a USA Swimming Age Group "BB" Motivational Time Standard in the 200 IM.
  • There must be pool lane space available as per the Head Coach

 

SILVER Group Goal

The SILVER Group’s goal is to develop goal-driven athletes and prepare swimmers for competitive success through intentional training.

 

*All promotions include a one-month probationary period in which a swimmer must consistently demonstrate group expectations at practices.
