Swim Groups

MEDINA SWIMMING offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of MEDINA SWIMMING to offer age specific training for all of our athletes, geared towards challenging each individual, as well as developing each individual to the best of THEIR ability.


GREEN TEAM (Entry level; 10 & under swimmers)

REQUIREMENTS: Developed knowledge of all four strokes, swim 25 yards in all four strokes, and ability to dive into deep water.

The goal of this group is to consistently improve their stroke technique, be a part of a team atmosphere, make friends and enjoy swimming!

1. Beginning competitive swimming recommends attendance of 2-3 days a week.
2. Frequent use of kickboards.
3. Entry into USA dual meets and selected USA weekend meets. 
4. Promotion to next group occurs when skill levels, attitudes toward practice, and endurance are shown. 

Workout Days/Times:
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
5:00-6:00p


WHITE TEAM (Swimmers 9-14)

Participation marks a critical time in a young swimmers' career. These swimmers have decided to make the commitment mentally, physically, and emotionally ... this is necessary to achieve. Other swimmers find that the commitment is more than they are ready to give, and their improvement is sometimes slower.

1. Continues emphasis on stroke development and technique through drills.
2. Introduction to training methods, including interval work.
3. Emphasis is on developing all four strokes
4. Swims in some selected USA weekend meets, as well as the USA Championship meet in which they qualify. 
5. Level attendance recommends 3 days a week. 

Workout Days/Times:
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
5:00-6:30p


YELLOW TEAM (Swimmers need coaching staff approval to enter this group)

Consistently improve their stroke technique, while developing great aerobic capacity. Will transition from introductory competitive swimming to more experienced swimming. Swimmers will set goals and attempt to attain them.

1. Continues emphasis on stroke development and technique through drills.
2. More aggressive workout schedule, with maintenance of stroke instruction, when appropriate.
3. Swims in some selected USA weekend meets, as well as the USA Championship meet in which they qualify. 
4. Wetland and Dryland exercise programs are stressed.
5. Level attendance recommends 3-4 days a week. 

Workout Days/Times:
Monday-Friday
2 hour practices


SENIOR TEAM (Swimmers need coaching staff approval to enter this group, with the requirement of year-round training)

Swimmers have goals of pursuing their swimming career as far as possible. This group of swimmers has made the commitment to USA Swimming year-round. They have the opportunity to participate in 6 practices a week.

NEW ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: 
1. Maintain a consistent practice attendance per week/month, but not required.
2. Swimmers are expected to attend all home meets and selected weekend meets.
3. In order to participate in travel meets or championship meets, a swimmer must have a MINIMUM of 75% practice attendance.
4. Wetland and Dryland exercise programs are stressed.
5. Level attendance recommends 3-4 days a week. 

Workout Days/Times:
Monday-Saturday
2 hour practices


HIGH SCHOOL TEAM 
An opportunity for high school swimmers to practice prior to their high school season, and return at the conclusion of their season for USA Champs and /or Sectionals. They have the opportunity to participate in 8-9 practices a week.


NEW ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: 

1. Maintain a consistent practice attendance per week/month, but not required.
2. Swimmers are expected to attend all home meets and selected weekend meets.
3. In order to participate in travel meets or championship meets, a swimmer must have a MINIMUM of 75% practice attendance.
4. Wetland and Dryland exercise programs are stressed.
5. Level attendance recommends 3-4 days a week. 

Workout Days/Times:
Monday-Saturday
2 hour practices, plus 2-3 morning practices.

NATIONAL TEAM 

Our USA National or Sectional level swimmers.

NEW ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: 

1. In order to participate in USA Sectionals or National level meets, a swimmer must have a MINIMUM of 90% practice attendance.

2. A swimmer must be a year round Medina Makos swimmers.

3. A swimmer must have competed in a Sectional or a National meet with the Medina Makos

Workout Days/Times:
Monday-Saturday
2 hour practices, plus 2-3 morning practices

Additional Optional Sunday practices or additional morning practices may be added at the discretion of the Head Coach.
