2017 Sea Monkey Coaching Staff

Jake Kudrna, Head Coach: The South Euclid-Lyndhurst Sea Monkeys are proud to welcome Jake Kudrna back for his second season as our Head Coach.  Jake brings a wealth of experience as a veteran swimmer in addition to his passion for the sport of swimming to the Sea Monkeys Program. 

Jake is an experienced swimmer and coach having achieved tremendous success throughout his career.  Jake was a member of the Sea Monkeys for several summers, and later, served as an age group coach.  Jake continued his success at the high school level having been a four-year Varsity swimmer at Brush High School, and later at the University of West Virginia. 

He has coached at both the high school and collegiate levels, and Jake is currently the Brush High School Head Varsity Swim Coach. 

The Sea Monkeys are honored to have Jake return to the program that started his swim career many years ago. 

Devin Frydl, 8 & Under Age Group Coach:  Devin Frydl is the 8 and Under Coach this season, which is also her second season as part of the Sea Monkeys coaching staff.  Devin brings enthusiasm to the coaching staff having been a Sea Monkey herself with Jake Kudrna serving as her coach. 

Devin is a 2016 Brush High School graduate, where she was a four-year Varsity Swimmer.  She recently completed her first year of studying pre-dentistry at Lakeland Community College. 

Devin looks forward to helping the 8 and Under swimmers improve their technique while also having fun.

Jimmy Tuohey, 9-10 Age Group Coach:  Jimmy is a long-time member of the Sea Monkeys family having begun his swimming career at the age of 6 and continuing through graduation at 15.  

Jimmy Tuohey is a 2016 graduate of Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School and just completed his first year at Ohio University. 

This season represents Jimmy’s second year as a Sea Monkeys coach and he looks forward to helping swimmers achieve success in the pool and building on their skills from last season.

Abby Bernard, 11-12 Age Group Coach:  Although a long-time member of the Sea Monkeys family, this summer is Abby’s third as part of the Sea Monkeys coaching staff.  Abby’s began her swim career with the Sea Monkeys at the age of 7 and continued to swim with the team through high school.  In addition to the Sea Monkeys, Abby was a 4- year member of the Brush High School Varsity Swim Team and also swam for the Beachwood Bison Swim Club. 

Abby is a 2016 graduate of Brush High School and recently completed her first year at John Carroll University.  She brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the team.

Erica Vanone, 13-15 Age Group Coach: Although she has previously dedicated many summers swimming and guarding at Lyndhurst Pool, this summer will represent Erica’s second season as a Sea Monkeys coach.  Swimming represents a major part of Erica’s life as she swam for 7 years as a member of the Sea Monkeys Swim Team, swam 4 years as a breaststroker and freestyler on the Varsity Swim Team at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School, and currently is a member of the Club Swim Team at The Ohio State University.  Additionally, Erica has also been part of both the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins and Great Lakes Sailfish Swimming Club Teams. 

Erica is a 2016 graduate of NDCL and is currently in her second year at The Ohio State University studying Pharmacy. Erica looks forward to helping the team build upon its success and further cultivate the Sea Monkeys spirit!

Shannon Frey, Bexley Pool Age Group Coach: Shannon is one of the coaches at Bexley this season, which is also her second season as a Sea Monkey coach. Shannon became a part of the Sea Monkey family at age 6 and swam until she graduated at age 15. She has also been apart of the Brush Varsity swim team, the North coast swim team, Lake Erie Dolphins and the Beachwood Bisons club team.


Shannon is a 2017 Brush High School graduate and will be continuing her education at Kent State University as a Criminal Justice major. 


Shannon is excited for another season with the Sea Monkeys. She is ready to have fun while also helping swimmers to learn the correct technique. 

Lizzy Frey, Bexley Pool Age Group Coach:

Lizzy Frey is a Coach at Bexley pool and works with all the age groups. 

She swam for the sea monkeys for 10 years before she graduated at the age of 16. As well as becoming a 4 year varsity letterer of the Brush Swim team. She’s now headed to Bowling Green where she will study exercise science and sport medicine. 

Ever since Lizzy joined the sea monkeys she could not wait to be a coach herself. Now she’s super excited to help improve the kids swimming and looks forward for the rest of the season.
