Swim Groups

The Wooster YMCA and Rec Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Wooster YMCA and Rec Swim Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Bronze Group

This is our entry level group. An athlete must be able to swim a minimum of a 25 yard freestyle and 25 yard backstroke to enter this group.  We recommend the athletes partake in at least one session of swim lessons before trying swim team as well.
Bronze Group Coach: Gladys Keegan/BJ Graham/Matt Chelf
Workout Days/Times:  Monday-Thursday from 5:30pm-6:30pm


Silver Group

From the Bronze group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting start and turn technique.

Workout Days/Times:  Monday-Thursday from 6:30pm-7:30pm/Friday from 5:30pm-6:30pm


Gold Group

From the Silver group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have completed the Silver Group move-up skills list. This group is exposed to high volume training for the first time while trying to prepare for the 200 Freestyle and 200 Individual Medley races. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged at a rate of about once per month.
