Practice Groups

The Princeton Family YMCA Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is our goal to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. All practices are held at the Princeton YMCA Paul Robeson Pool unless otherwise stated. 

 

Bronze Group

Swimmers in this group are for our novice to intermediate swimmers ages 5 to 14. They need to be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. The goal of this group is to become proficient in all five strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Underwater Dolphin Kicking) with a primary emphasis on technique and strong kicking. Swimmers will learn the basics of lane etiquette, starts and turns, and clock management. The recommended number of practices is 3 per week. Swimmers are encouraged to attend all five practices. In order to participate in swim meets, swimmers must attend at least three practices a week.

Monday-Friday 6:10pm-7:10pm

Practice Dues: 

  • Fall/Winter Season (September-March) – $1260 in One Payment or $180/Month + Youth/Teen Full Facility Membership/Month + Meet Fees
  • Spring/Summer Season (April-July) – $675 in One Payment or $180/Month + Youth/Teen Full Facility Membership/Month + Meet Fees

Silver Group

Swimmers in this group are ages 8 and over, and have an understanding of all five strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Underwater Dolphin Kicking). These swimmers have not yet reached or are achieving YMCA Bronze Time Standards (See our handbook for a better understanding of Time Standards). The primary goal of this group is to get swimmers technically proficient and start developing basic conditioning. Swimmers need to be able to swim fifty yards of all four strokes, and will be introduced to interval training as well as sprint work. Swimmers will also be introduced to goal setting. The recommended number of practices is 3 per week. Swimmers are encouraged to attend all five practices. In order to participate in swim meets, swimmers must attend at least three practices a week.

Workout Days/Times:
Monday-Friday 6:10pm-7:40pm (Swimmers will join gold group for warm up which is 20-30 minutes)

Practice Dues: 

  • Fall/Winter Season (September-March) – $1330 in One Payment or $190/Month + Youth/Teen Full Facility Membership/Month + Meet Fees
  • Spring/Summer Season (April-July) – $710 in One Payment or $190/Month + Youth/Teen Full Facility Membership/Month + Meet Fees

Gold Group

Swimmers in this group are ages 9 and over. To be considered for this group, swimmers must attend three practices a week and have YMCA Bronze Time Standards or the coach's approval. Swimmers are encouraged to attend all practices to maximize the benefits of their training. The practices will be more rigorous while still emphasizing stroke technique and racing precision. Swimmers will set goals in the beginning of the season with their coaches. Swimmers in this group are expected to attend all dual meets, Invitationals, and Championship meets.

Monday-Friday 7:10pm-9:00pm
Weekends: Saturday 5
:00pm-7:00 pm (9-13 year olds)
Weekends: Sunday 3:30pm-5:30pm (14 and overs)

Practice Dues: 

  • Fall/Winter Season (September-March) – $1505 in One Payment or $215/Month + Youth/Teen Full Facility Membership/Month + Meet Fees
  • Spring/Summer Season (April-July) – $795 in One Payment or $215/Month + Youth/Teen Full Facility Membership/Month + Meet Fees

Gold Select Group

Swimmers in this group are ages 13 and over. To be considered for this group, swimmers must have YMCA Bronze Time Standards and attend four of the six practices offered with the expectation that they attend as many practices as possible to maximize their training. Swimmers in this group will be subject to high performance training as well as becoming more technical in racing strategy and precision. Swimmers will be goal oriented, aiming for Silver, State, and Junior Olympic Time Standards or faster. Older swimmers will be given opportunities to have Leadership roles for our swim team (assisting with coaches and other YMCA activities and leading team activities). They are expected to attend all dual meets, Invitationals, and Championship meets.

Monday - Friday: 7:10pm-9:00pm
Weekends: Sunday 3:30-5:30pm
