To simplify which group your swimmer will be in, here are some basic guidelines. If you are unsure of what group your swimmer should be in or have special requirements (kids in a family that all need to end practice at the same time – we’re all parents, we get it!), please reach out to one of the NLY Swim Coaches and we can help you sign up for the right group.

Beginners - Swimmers that this will be their first year joining swim team for the full season, for kids 8 and under and for previous swimmer still learning the basic techniques to be able to compete in all strokes. This group will work mainly on stroke techniques, diving and learning the basics of competitive swimming.

Intermediate – Swimmers 12 and under that have swam for at least one full season, attended several meets throughout the season on a regular basis and are proficient in all 4 strokes.

Advanced – Swimmers 13 and over that have swam for several years, attend meets regularly during the season and compete in all 4 strokes. These swimmers will also be expected to do swim workouts or dryland on their own on days we don’t have a formal practice.
