The Carmel Aquatics Center is seeking lifeguards and swim instructors year round.

Lifeguards are needed to work various hours throughout the week Monday-Sunday.  Shifts are 3-4 hours long and take place in the morning, afternoon, evenings, and weekends.  Activities include lap swimming, swim lessons, club and high school swim practices and swim meets.  Lifeguards get to pick the shifts that work best with their schedule.  We have year round positions available.

Hourly Rate: $8-$10 per hour depending on shift, activity taking place, and age.

Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR PRO/AED, and First Aid.  Crossover training is available for those with YMCA or Ellis certifications. There is ongoing training throughout the year that lifeguards are required to attend.

Don’t have the certifications?  The CAC offers lifeguard courses throughout the year to receive required certifications.  Please contact the Aquatics Director (information below) if interested in taking a lifeguard course

Aquatics Instructors are needed to teach various classes throughout the week Monday-Saturday.  An instructor is asked to commit to one session at a time which lasts about four weeks.  Classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays (instructor is asked to teach both days), Tuesdays and Thursdays (instructor is asked to teach both days), and Saturdays.

Teaching Requirements:

Swim Lessons: swimming knowledge is preferred, but training is available and can be taught before lessons begin.  Levels for swimmers start at beginner and go up to advanced.  Ages range from 3 years – 12 years.  Instructors are required to be in the water with participants the entire time.

Stroke Development: swimming knowledge is required, but you do not have to be a competitive swimmer.  During this class, participants are working on the stroke technique for the 4 major competitive strokes and will be swimming half – the full length of the pool.  Instructors are required to demonstrate drills and strokes in the water, but may get in and out of the water various times throughout the class to watch participants.  Ages range from 4 years – 12 years.

Swim Club Prep: swimming knowledge is required, competitive swimming background is preferred.  During this class, participants are working on the stroke technique and endurance.  Participants are getting a “swim team” workout to prepare them for the club.  Instructors are not required to get into the water, but instructors must wear the instructors uniform to each class

Private/Semi Private Lessons: swimming knowledge is required, but you do not have to be a competitive swimmer.  These classes are scheduled based on the instructors availability, clients availability, and pool availability.  Ages can range from 3 years old to adults.  Levels from beginners to competitive swimmers.  Must teach at least one session of group lessons before starting privates.  Instructors are required to be in the water with clients.

Teen/Adult Swim Lessons:  swimming knowledge preferred and comfortable with working with adults.  Participants are goal oriented and are ages 13 years old and up.  Instructors are required to be in the water with participants.

Hourly Rate: $8-$15 per hour depending on what class is taught and age.

Certifications:  No Certifications are required, but ongoing training throughout the year is scheduled and is mandatory to attend.
