Head Coach: Emily Vest
I was born and raised in Marshalltown where I swam for the Marshalltown Blue Wave Swim Team for 9 years and was an assistant coach for 3 years. I also swam for Marshalltown High School for 4 years. After high school, I went and graduated from Marshalltown Community College where I got my AA with Honors. I then transferred to UNI where I am currently studying Secondary Mathematics Education with a minor in Criminology. Swimming is a passion of mine and I enjoy every minute of it. In 2019/2020 I became a part of the Waterloo YMCA Pirates Swim Team as an assistant coach. Aside from swimming, I enjoy learning about many things including criminal justice/law enforcement. A few years ago, I graduated from the Citizens Police Academy in Marshalltown. I also enjoy spending time with my family and my two dogs! I am excited to be head coach this season and have a great year!

Weight Lifting Coach: Ryan Weeks
I was born in Iowa Falls, IA and I currently live in the Cedar Falls/ Waterloo area. Before moving to my current location, I went to school in Cedar Rapids at Kirkwood Community College where I graduated with my AAS in Exercise Science. I am excited to use my degree this year as the Pirates weightlifting coach. Lifting and nutrition are essentially to all athletes and I get to help the swimmers learn about it and hopefully they take it with their future career as well. Something interesting about myself is I used to be a competitive rubik's “cuber”!

Assistant Coach: Megan Yasuda
You could say that I have been around the Pirates Swim Team for awhile now! I have been a part of the competitive swimming community for roughly 5 years as a coach and as an official. I live in Cedar Falls, IA with my husband and daughter. My favorite swim memory would definitely have to be having night meets at lakes! Not only do I love swimming but I love to learn. I have my BS in Physics and my BS in Astronomy from the University of Iowa and I have my BS in Computer Science from UNI. A fun fact about myself would be I worked at a zoo where I massaged a tiger’s gums several times a week.
Assistant Coach: Sydney Keifer
My hometown is Charles City, IA. I swam for the Charles City YMCA and High school so I have been swimming competitively for 11 years now! During this time, we got to push our coach into the water during the last week of practice every season. This would have to be my favorite swim memory. I also coached for the Charles City YMCA before I became a coach for the Waterloo YMCA Pirates Swim Team in 2019/2020. I am eager to be back this year and see the smiles from all the swimmers. Outside of swimming and coaching, I am a student at Hawkeye Community College where I am studying Nursing. For the past 11 years I have also played the viola!

Assistant Coach: Jade Cox
I am from Evansdale, IA. I currently am a senior in high school and swim for my high school’s swim team where I have been captain for 2 years. I love swimming, especially my freshman year at regionals. Seeing all the support from the team and everyone cheering for each other was such a great feeling. I started my coaching career in 2019/2020 with the Pirates and have learned so many things along the way! I am excited to be back for the 2020/2021 season! Next year, I plan to go to Iowa State University to study Animal Science. You may have seen me around, if so, you know I love doing fun, crazy hair colors. I also like to hunt/fish in my free time.
