Please note: all of our coaches offer private lessons.

Sign up poolside in their notebooks (we’re old school)!

Elizabeth Lofgren - Head Coach: Coach Elizabeth developed a lifelong love of swimming as a child through her summer MCSL experiences. Today, she passes that love on to our swimmers. At Loyola University in Baltimore, Coach Elizabeth competed on the varsity team all four years. Over the past 16 years, Coach Elizabeth has successfully and energetically coached children ages 6-18 as well as adults. She’s a certified USA swim coach and specializes in stroke technique instruction. Please feel free to e-mail her about the team, Minis, or private instruction at lofgrenbb@yahoo.com.

Richard Grinschgl - Senior Coach (left): This year, his fourth as a coach, Richard will serve as Coach Elizabeth's right-hand man. He's a rising sophomore at the University of Richmond and has been swimming for the Maniacs since he was six! Richard was also a Merrimack lifeguard and a Mini-Maniacs coach. In high school, he swam with ASA and at Whitman.

Johann Grinschgl - Junior Coach (right): Johann, a rising high school senior, is entering his second year as a coach. He started swimming for the team when he was just five! Today, he's an accomplished swimmer and soccer player. He loves the energy and excitment of meets and team events and hopes to pass on his love of swimming to younger swimmers.

Amelia Bergman - Junior Coach:  Amelia is back for a second year of coaching at Merrimack. She's a rising high school senior and swims for ASA, her high school team and – of course – the Maniacs! Amelia spent the last four years coaching for the Special Olympics Montgomery County Sharks where she teaches athletes of all ages. She particularly loves the Maniacs welcoming community and environment.

Anna Eagle - Junior Coach: Anna, who's a rising high school junior, considers Merrimack her second home and the Maniacs her second family. Anna officially became a Maniac at age five and was so excited, she refused to take off her team suit. Nowadays, Anna coaches for FINS, where she instructs swimmers ages 3 through 12. This summer, her first as a Maniacs coach, she hopes to pass her longtime love of Merrimack on to our youngest swimmers.

Thomas Scheller - Junior Coach: Thomas is a rising high school senior and a first-year coach! Outside Merrimack, he sings in his high school choir and rallies teammates on both his school team and the Capitol Sea Devils. At Merrimack, he’s often our go-to guy for the National Anthem. This year, he wants to encourage swimmers to swim fast and strong.
