Training Groups

The Saint Charles Swim Team, founded in 1975, is known throughout the country for being a first-class, year-round competitive swim program. We offer a guided age-group youth program for children ages 5 to 14 and a senior program for swimmers 14 and up, that concentrate on the advancement of these athletes.  SCST is comprised of the beginning swimmers to the most competitive and skilled swimmers.

The mission of the Saint Charles Swim Team is a commitment to excellence and a dedication to developing positive role models.

SCST is offered as a program of St Charles Aquatics to the residents of the Greater St. Charles Area who want their children to participate in a comprehensive swim program.  The program is designed to all levels of competitive swimmers.

The four major areas of the program are:

  • Physical development through proper workouts.
  • Group interaction through group dynamics at practice, meets, and social events.
  • Development of self-esteem through accomplishing individual goals.
  • Self-actualization through planning goals and accepting the responsibility of working towards their achievement.

The St. Charles Swim Team is a competitive program with a purpose and commitment to develop positive role models. The experience with SCST tends to shape and develop character throughout one’s lifetime.  St. Charles Swimming strives to develop champion athletes; the Team’s success is measured not only by personal development, but also by National Level Competition and College Scholarships.

The degree of commitment to swimming is the decision of each swimmer.  Once a decision is made by the swimmer as to their goals, the coaches will assist in developing a workout program for the swimmer.

The basic program design is one where the amount of time available for practice increases as the swimmer matures and is therefore able to handle the increased physical pressures and demands on their time.

The coaching staff feels that while winning is important, the work and planning leading up to the competitive experience is more important.  We want swimmers to realize that they are winners if they have achieved their own personal goals, even though they might not have won their event.  We want the swimmers who have progressed through our program and graduated from high school to say that they got more out of swimming than just ribbons, medals, and trophies.

The accomplishments of the team are as important as those of the individual.  Team accomplishments are achieved when all individuals meet their performance objectives.  Therefore, competition is provided for all ability levels within the team so that each swimmer can perform and see how they are progressing toward their objectives.

Through the cooperative efforts of parents, coaches, and swimmers, the time spent in swimming should prove worthwhile.

AGE GROUP

The St Charles Swim Team offers two paths for a swimmer to develop; Silver and Gold Training Groups. The goal of the Silver Training Group is to introduce a swimmer to the sport of competitive swimming. The Gold Training Group offers more time for swimmers to develop skills and train to advance in the competitive sport of swimming.

The Age Group Programs of the St. Charles Swim Team are Age Group 1, Age Group 2, Age Group 3 and Age Group 4 Training Groups. SCST offers Silver and Gold Training Groups for Age Group 2, Age Group 3 and Age Group 4 Training Groups. Training groups will be assigned based on skill ability.  Each of the Training Groups will have the following objectives:

  • Swimmers will consistently improve their stroke technique
  • Swimmers will grow up in the sport to be their best
  • Swimmers will begin a goal setting process
  • Swimmers will be a part of a Team Atmosphere
  • Swimmers will make friends with their teammates
  • Swimmers will ENJOY swimming
  • Swimmers will make goals and attempt to attain them
  • SWIMMERS WILL WANT TO COME TO PRACTICE

Good practice attendance and attitude at an early stage in an athlete’s swimming career can go a long way in ensuring long-term success.

SENIOR TEAM

The Senior Programs of the St. Charles Swim Team consists of the Senior 1, Senior 2 and Senior High-Performance Training Groups.  In addition to emphasizing long-term rather than short-term results, it is also important that we establish training groups of swimmers who are compatible in respect to abilities, commitment levels and goals.  Unfortunately, this is not always the most convenient approach to take, but it is always the most productive.

At each level, the goals and objectives are specific and directed toward meeting the needs of the swimmer.  The long-term goal of total excellence is always in mind.  As each swimmer is different, he/she will progress at his/her own rate.  The coaching staff recognizes this fact by making team assignments based on a swimmer’s physical, mental and emotional level of development.

The goal of the Senior Program is to ensure that every swimmer will have a love of the sport that will never leave them and to get every swimmer into a college program if that is their goal.
