Groups

(HSST) The Harford Sailfish Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Harford Sailfish Swim Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities. All practices will be at the Harford Community College pool at the Susquehanna Center.

Small Sails - This is our entry-level team group, introducing young athletes to the world of competitive swimming! Through the application of drills/skills/repeating of sound, basic swimming fundamentals and race strategies, they are taught an appreciation of the sport from an early age! Practices last 45 minutes. Ages 6-8 depending on ability. Evaluation by Instructor. This group will learn freestyle, backstroke and initial beginnings of breast and fly. Prerequisite-Students must be able to complete 25 yards of freestyle and 25 yards of backstroke kick. If a student fails to meet all prerequisites, he or she may be withdrawn from the class. 

 

Prep Sails - Technique Group.  This is the perfect group for the “casually competitive” swimmer. Practices are one hour, and attention to proper stroke details are emphasized with some endurance training as well. Must be able to do freestyle and backstroke at least two laps and have some knowledge of butterfly and breaststroke.  Refining skills free and back, fly and breast, and competitive turns are taught. Prerequisite-Students must be able to complete 50 yards of freestyle and  backstroke and have some knowledge of butterfly and breaststroke. Evaluation by Instructor. If a student fails to meet all prerequisites, he or she may be withdrawn from the class. 


Junior Sails - This is a competitive group that teaches intervals, challenging workouts, improvement of all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, finishes, and racing strategies. It is a great place for newer competitive swimmers coming from summer league, and are looking to commit to three to four practices a week. We emphasize stroke technique, teamwork, basic training etiquette and behavior.  . Evaluation by Instructor.  Prerequisite- must be legal in all four strokes. If a student fails to meet all prerequisites, he or she may be withdrawn from the class.


Senior Sails - This group is tailored for swimmers who have dedicated themselves to the sport of swimming, and are capable of consistently performing difficult training sets in practice, working towards becoming state qualifiers.  Swimmers can expect to be challenged on aerobic and anaerobic levels while embracing cutting edge and creative training techniques and drills, both in and out of the pool all season long. Evaluation by Instructor Prerequisite- must be legal in all four strokes.   If a student fails to meet all prerequisites, he or she may be withdrawn from the class. 

High School Senior Sails - This group is tailored for swimmers who have dedicated themselves to the sport of swimming, and are capable of consistently performing difficult training sets in practice, working towards becoming state qualifiers.  Swimmers can expect to be challenged on aerobic and anaerobic levels while embracing cutting edge and creative training techniques and drills, both in and out of the pool all season long. Evaluation by Instructor Prerequisite- must be legal in all four strokes.   If a student fails to meet all prerequisites, he or she may be withdrawn from the class.
