Welcome to the 49er Gators!
The Gators will participate in the Southern Arizona Aquatic Association (SAAA) summer swim league April 2 – July 18, 2018, (16 weeks) at 49er Country club and April 30 to July 18, 2018 (12 Weeks) at Eastern Hills Aquatic Club - EHAC.
Practice: Swimmers will practice M-F, divided by age groups. Spring practice will be held in the afternoons until May 26, 2018. After The Memorial Day holiday practice times move to mornings for the summer. (Please see the 2018 Practice Schedule listed under the documents tab for more detailed information).
Events: In the month of June swimmers have the opportunity to participate in dual meets with other teams. Those meets are generally held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. They take place at our home pool and away at home pools of other teams in the league. There are invitational meets held on Saturdays at Amphi HS which are organized by age and swim experience of the competitors. The invitationals are a great chance for swimmers to compete with athletes across the league out of our division and gain experience for the championship event held in July. Each swimmer is only eligible to attend one invitational. The Championship event for each division in the league is held as the culminating season event for the teams. Preliminaries are held the first day followed by finals in the evening of day 2. Team points are calculated and team trophies are awarded by the league. Our club also holds a pasta pep rally party and a trophy banquet to celebrate the end of the season. All events are optional and we encourage families to commit to a schedule appropriate for the age and experience of their children. To be eligible to participate in the championship event, swimmers must have attended at least 3 meets during the season. All swimmers will be able to participate as individuals and a part of a relay. (Please see the 2018 SAAA Calendar under the documents Tab for detailed information). You will automatically receive reminders to sign up/out for events one week ahead of each deadline. Coaches spend many hours preparing entries and meet programs, please make an effort to review the calendar and commit or decline to events as soon as possible. The Invitationals and Championships require our team to pay additional fees on your behalf, if you are a no show for an event that you committed to you will be held responsible for the additional fees incurred. The invitationals and Championships are special events that you will find to be team bonding experiences and a great time for your swimmer. We encourage you to participate in these events.
Family Participation: Swimming is a family sport. We need over 50 volunteers to run our events. Each family will be required to participate and volunteer at each of our home meets, invitationals and Championship event that your swimmer participates in. We are able to track volunteer participation through our web site, offering sign up times and duties as well as track hours. We ask that you register through the site. Jobs are simple and it is a fun way to participate and let you children know you value what they are doing by lending your support. There is a buy out option of $150 for the season for parents who are unable to participate. Under the Events tab- you may click on the event and complete the “Job Sign Up”.
Coaches: All of our coaches are safety certified through the Red Cross and USA Swimming. They carry Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aide certifications as well as Safety training for Swim Coaches and have completed a background check. Our USA team coaches have completed additional certifications through USA Swimming. You may read the biographies of our coaches under the “Meet our Coaches “Tab on the home page.
Fees: $315, Early Bird (before April 1, 2018) $295 per swimmer (16 weeks at 49ers) $240 (12 Weeks at EHAC). Discounts are given to 49er Country Club and EHAC Pool Members and for families with more than one swimmer. Fees are all inclusive for coaching, pool use, entry and registration fees with SAAA, a secondary liability insurance coverage, team cap and awards. Families are responsible for personal attire and equipment which includes team suit, t-shirt, fins, snorkel, goggles, team bag, towel, and meal expenses at our events. (Please see the “Champion Pools order form” for information about team suits and gear under the Documents Tab).
Fund Raising: Everyone’s Favorite Activity!
We have 2 fundraising events for our club during the summer season. These activities are optional and we have made an effort to make them a fun community building experience for families. All funds raised through these events support our equipment/team development, so that all members will benefit. Each year we have a list of equipment needs we work toward fulfilling. In the past years, we have spent the money on starting blocks, kick boards, pull buoys, shade tents, umbrellas, flags, equipment basket, computer software for meet management, and banners. This year our list includes: A lane Line reel, an equipment basket, kickboards, lap counters, head sets for officials, and the big one is a portable scoreboard with an electronic timing system. In addition to our 2 events, we accept sponsorships which includes signage at our meets and a mention in our meet program. Sponsors may also choose to purchase specific items directly.
This year our events are…
Cinco de Mayo Swimo y Runo - a 200 yd. swim followed by a 5 K run. Participants may choose one or both events. We are looking for volunteers to join this committee. Please let us know if you are interested- especially if you have experience with this type of an event! Please Join us to swim and run with your family.
