FAST will begin new swimmer tryouts in September. Swimmers aged 12 and Under will be assessed by the Age Group Coaching Staff which are based primarily at the Minerva DeLand pool. Swimmers with no prior competitive experience will participate in the "Intro To Swim Team" 4 week program. They will typically swim Monday - Friday in the 5:00 -6:00 pm timeframe. As the swimmers get acclimated with skills and practice, they will be main streamed into the appropriate group. Days and times may change based on facility and coach availability. Basic swimming skills are all that is necessary for a Intro. As long as the swimmer can swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool), we encourage them to consider beginning our swim team program.
There will be an evaluation, after the evaluation, the swimmer if appropriate, will be invited to start a 4 week program with the team, with the option of extending after the 4 week program for 12 + under swimmers. We are flexible with attendance, and schedule practice normally 5 times per week (most weeks). We suggest your swimmer attend as many times as possible during the Intro period to get a sense of the competitive strokes, our Coaching staff, and our organization. During that time, our Membership Reps will review with you the fees and commitments of our program, which are based in large part on the swimming level of your child. Coaches will n determine the best fit for your swimmer in our program, and then we can discuss with you the membership options and fees.
Below is a Trial Swim form that you will need to print, fill out, and have your child pass onto one of our coaches on their first day. It is important that the form be passed onto a coach on the first day as your swimmer can not participate without passing the hard copy onto a Coach. Parents are welcome to watch the practice session from the spectator seating area within the pool area. However, we can not allow parents onto the pool deck at any time due to the instructional and safety responsibilities that our coaches have. We also schedule practice groups back-to-back, so coaches are generally not available for discussion after practice. You will be able to correspond with our Coaches who are working with your swimmer via email.
