Special Olympics Swim Team
The mission of Taos Swim Club Special Olympics Team is to provide year-round training and summer competition in swimming for people with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
The ultimate objective of Taos Swim Club Special Olympics Team is to help people with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society at large, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through the sport of swimming, and by increasing the public's awareness of their capabilities and needs.
Practices are offered free of charge. We fundraise for out-of-town competitions.
Our Special Olympic Team is on break and will resume practice in January or March depending on pool availability and water temperature. Practice will be held on Fridays from 4:00 - 5:00. There is typically an Area Meet in Los Alamos in July and the State meet is the Four Corners Invitational in Farmington in August.
