Novice and Intermediate (typically 5-9 years old) 

 

 

Novice

  • Be willing and able to put your face in the water
  • Comfortable in deep water
  • Willing and able to participate in a 45-60 minute practice 
  • Kick on your stomach while properly using a kick board
  • Be able to float unassisted on your back
  • Be able to swim one length of basic freestyle or backstroke without stopping
  • Breaststroke kick and pull will be taught
  • Butterfly kick/motion will be taught
  • Introduce freestyle and backstroke turns
  • *Group focus will be to learn proper freestyle and backstroke technique and incorporate proper locomotion for freestyle and backstroke practice regularly.

 

Intermediate

  • Be willing and able to put your face in the water
  • Comfortable in deep water
  • Willing and able to participate in a 45-60 minute practice
  • Incorporate freestyle and backstroke turns with proper freestyle and backstroke technique.
  • Learn and reinforce breaststroke and butterfly fundamentals/timing
  • In order to be in the group you must be able to complete one length (25 yards) of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly kick
  • *Group focus will be to reinforce proper locomotion for freestyle and backstroke along with proper timing for breaststroke and butterfly fundamentals.  Introduction to starts. Introduction on how to read a pace clock. 

 

Age Group (typically 9-13 years old)

 

Age Group Blue 

  • Be able to swim 25 yards legally of the four competitive strokes; kick 50 yards on your back and 50 yards on your stomach without stopping
  • *Group focus will be technique oriented for all four competitive strokes.  Continued development of competitive starts and turns.  Swimmers will be introduced to swimming terms and expected to learn/know how to read a pace clock.

 

Age Group Gold

  • Be able to complete a legal 200 IM
  • Be able to complete 5 x 100 free @ 1:50 and 5 x 100 back @ 2:05
  • Be able to complete 8 x 50 free kick @ 1:30
  • Be able to read and use a pace clock/learn and understand lane spacing and pacing
  • *Group focus will be to develop and improve efficiency in all four competitive strokes along with learning to use and the purpose of using various training equipment.  

 

Senior (typically 12-18 years old)

 

 

-Developmental or Training level to be assigned by the coaching staff

 

Senior Developmental

  • Expected to attend a minimum of 60% of the practices offered
  • Be able to complete 10 x 100 free @ 1:40
  • Be able to complete 8 x 50 free and 8 x 50 back kick @ 1:30
  • Be able to complete 4 x 200 IM @ 3:45
  • *Group focus will be to learn and improve race strategy for competitive swim meets.  Continue to develop weaker strokes with the goal of being a confident four stroke swimmer.  Expand the knowledge of swimming terms and incorporate self-accountability.

 

Senior Training

  • Expected to attend a minimum of 75% of  practices offered
  • Be able to complete 10 x 100 free @ 1:25
  • Be able to complete 10 x 50 free and 10 x 50 back kick @ 1:20
  • Be able to complete 5 x 200 IM @ 3:30
  • *Group focus will be to train and reinforce strong practice habits for quality racing at competitive meets
