2020 Season Calendar
Middle school parents, swimmers, and divers:
Maya Metry, one of our 8th grade divers, is taking the lead on piecing together a slideshow for our upcoming Awards Night (on Tuesday, March 10 at 7pm in the Pike Freshman Center Cafeteria).
If you or your child have some photos from the season to share, please drop them in this open Google Photos album that Maya created ASAP (preferrably in the next day or so!).
Thank you for a great season!
Patrick (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Erin (EMOwen@pike.k12.in.us)
Thanks for a fantastic first meet! Special thank you to everyone that volunteered in some capacity. Couldn't have done it without your help. If you are interested in times and results, click here for meet results: (/rechsphssd/UserFiles/Image/QuickUpload/warren-meet-results_056600.pdf).
Please note that our next home meet isn't until the Conference Championship on Saturday, February 29. We have 3 travel meets in the month of February. The travel lineups are COMPETITIVE. We have limited space on the bus to travel, and many of the pools we compete at aren't equipped to handle 74 of our swimmers or additional heats in events. Continued attendance is crucial to be considered for the travel roster, yet please understand that we will only be able to take about half of the team to travel meets. Please continue email Coach Patrick or Erin with conflicts ahead of time so that practices absences may be considered Excused over Unexcused.
The travel roster will be announced here and via email. If you miss practice the Monday before a meet, you risk losing your spot in the meet lineup.
Finally, all swimmers on the Away meet roster are expected to ride the bus directly to the meet right after school, AND ride the return bus back to Pike High School. Swimmers will call parents on their way over to Pike to communicate pick up time. We HIGHLY encourage riding the bus both to and from the meet, but we recognize there are circumstances where parents may need to transport their kids home from the Away meet site home. In those cases, you must complete a Transportation Waiver (here: /rechsphssd/UserFiles/Image/QuickUpload/transportation-release-form_052805.docx) and have it turned in to your Middle School Athletic Director 24 hours before the meet. Anyone without a Transportation Waiver on file will have to ride the bus. We cannot make exceptions to this rule as it is a massive liability. Just like physicals, coaches cannot accept these waivers; they must be turned into the Athletic Directors.
Please continue to communicate any questions! Thanks.

The Pike Middle School Swimming & Diving Calendar for the upcoming 2020 season is now posted above. Also posted is the agenda of what was discussed at the Parent Meeting in early December.
Calendar in a nutshell: We will always have practice Mon-Thu from 6-7:30PM from January 13-March 3, with the following exceptions. Please note that if school is cancelled due to weather or other circumstances, or if schools send kids home early, practice will be canceled that evening.
- 1/21: practice canceled
- 1/28: Warren meet @ Home 6pm
- 2/4: Decatur meet @ Decatur Central HS 6pm
- 2/11: Belzer meet @ Lawrence Central HS 6pm
- 2/19: practice canceled
- 2/25: Ben Davis meet @ Ben Davis HS 6pm
- 2/29: Conference Championship @ Home 9am
- 3/3: Fall Creek Valley meet @ Home 6pm
The first practice (includes tryouts) will be held 6-7:30pm on Monday January 13th at Pike High School Natatorium. Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) nonstop without assistance in order to make the team (divers will tryout separately with Coach MyKaela). We have an excellent swim lessons program for ALL ages that would make a great option for those who may be cut. This cutoff is for safety reasons, as swim team coaches do not work in the water with the kids; in swim lessons, your child will get one-on-one attention in shallow water. Middle schoolers who show up to 'try out' AFTER Thursday January 16 will not be considered for the team.
Please note that even when your child DOES make the team, they may not make the travel roster for away swim meets. Due to limited bus space and limited space in the meet lineups, we can only sign up 3-4 swimmers per event per travel meet. These slots are competitive! Sixth and seventh graders should not be discouraged by this. Excellent practice attendance, hard work, swimming each season, and club swimming will greatly increase your chances of traveling to away meets.
Finally, please communicate conflicts (dr appointments, travel, extra-curriculars, etc.) to coaches Patrick and Erin as soon as you are aware of them. If sufficient notice is given and an absence is justifiable, we may excuse the practice absence. Excessive unexcused, unaccounted for absences will hurt your child’s chances of competing in the next swim meet. We only have a handful of meets (this season goes by QUICK!) so please limit absences as much as possible.
We're looking forward to a great season! Please contact Head Coaches Patrick (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Erin (EMOwen@pike.k12.in.us) with any questions.
