Whether you're visiting from out of town or just want to see what we're about, stop by for a practice!
In order to swim with us, you must fill out the online Visitor Registration form. Print out your Visitor Registration Receipt and hand it to the on-deck coach at your first swim practice. Your Visitor Registration is good for two trial practices over a 30-day period. Visiting USMS-registered swimmers must complete this form, too. We do not charge a daily/guest fee. You are our guest.
We ask that all swimmers have the ability to swim 200 yards (eight lengths) freestyle without stopping. Please come to one of our less crowded practices: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evening at Gill Park, or Tuesday or Thursday morning at Jones College Prep. Arrive 10 minutes early and introduce yourself to the on-deck coach. They will ask you a few questions about your swim ability and assign you to a lane.
What should you bring to practice? A swim suit, goggles, cap, towel, combination lock and water bottle. Pull buoys, paddles, and kick boards are available at the pool. We encourage all visitors to familiarize themselves with our Swim Practice etiquette.
After your two trial practices, we expect you to pay membership dues and officially join the team if you'd like to continue swimming with us.
You may join the Chicago Smelts at any time during the year. We have no swim practice or swim meet attendance requirements. Just come and have fun.
