lub-USA Team (Fall 2018-Spring 2019)

The Prince George's County, Department of Parks and Recreation's Sharks Swim Team offer training and practice groups for a wide range of swimmers. It is the goal of the Sharks to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. This is a competitive swim team. Swimmers at all levels are expected to compete in meets.

How to Register
Registration for tryouts and for the team takes place through the Department of Parks and Recreation SMARTlink system. If you already have an SMARTlink account, then you can register online (click the program barcodes below) or in person at a staff facility using the program barcode number. If you don't already have an SMARTlink account, CLICK HERE for information.

Level 1

This beginning group practices 8.75 hours a week during the Club Season. Level 1 focuses on teaching the 4 competitive strokes and improving swimming endurance and stroke-and-turn skills in preparation for competition. We stretch (drylands) daily for 15 minutes at the start of practice. 

Prerequisite at tryouts: Participants will be evaluated on their ability in relationship to the group. Swimmers should know how to do freestyle, with side breathing, and backstroke PRIOR to joining the group. Swimmers who can complete the minimum requirements may be asked to demonstrate other skills such as butterfly or breaststroke, competition turns and starts as part of the tryout process. Before coming to tryouts, please review the information on this website at in particular the Group Descriptions/Practice Schedule so that you understand the time and travel commitment.

Level 2

This intermediate group practices 10.75 hours a week during the Club Season with focuses on stroke refinement, endurance, and competitive starts, turns, and finishes. We stretch daily 15 minutes at the start of practice. 

Prerequisite to be done at tryouts: Participants will be evaluated on their ability and endurance to swimming freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke. Swimmers who can complete the minimum requirements may be asked to demonstrate other skills such as competition turns and starts as part of the tryout process. Before coming to tryouts, please review the information on this website at in particular the Group Descriptions/Practice Schedule so that you understand the time and travel commitment.

MULTI-CHILD DISCOUNT (CLUB SEASON)

A 10% discount for swimmers beyond the first registration within a family can be applied for participants in Level 1 and 2. Swimmers must be in the same family account in SMARTlink.Multi-Child Discount is not applicable for Level 1 participants.

To receive the Multi-Child Discount, place the money on your SMARTlink account and then send an email to  PGPR.Swimteam@pgparks.com to complete your registration. You will receive a confirmation receipt once the registration is complete. Discounts cannot be applied online or at the facilities, so please contact team registrar at 301-446-6825 to complete this process.

PAYMENT PLANS (CLUB SEASON)

Money is not automatically deducted from credit cards, therefore, you must manually apply money to your SMARTlink account prior to each payment plan due date listed below. Late payments may restrict your swimmer from participating in practices and/or meets until the balance on the account is paid. A non-refundable USA Swimming Registration fee will be processed at the time of registration cost. Payment plans will be calculated based on the "prorated by program session" course fee.

Swim Team Practice Punch Pass

Each swimmer registered in any of the PGPR Club Season Swim Team levels will be registered for the FREE PGPR Team Practice Punch Pass. The purpose of this pass is for your swimmer to get extra practice and swim laps on their own time.  This pass includes thirty (30) ‘punches’ available until April 18, 2018 that will allow your child to practice at any M-NCPPC indoor and outdoor pools (Theresa Banks, Glenn Dale Splash Park, Prince George’s Sports and Learning ComplexJ. Franklyn Bourne, Allentown Splash Tennis and Fitness Park, North Barnaby Splash Park, Rollingcrest-Chillum Splash Park, Hamitlon Splash Park,  Lane Manor Splash Park and Fairland Sports and Aquatic Complex) on Fridays, Saturday and Sundays  during their open lap swimming time.  Pleaese visit www.pgparks.com for facility information and ope lap swimming times. Any unused/leftover ‘punches’ remaining after the expiration date will be forfeited, and will not be rolled/carried or have cash value. 

 

Each swimmer should have a printed SMARTlink card, which will be scanned, to practice at the pools.  If your swimmer(s) does/do not have a SMARTlink card, please visit one of the M-NCPPC facilities or community centers to have a ID printed, you can inform them that your swimmer has a PGPR Swim Team Practice Punch Pass “membership” which is already on your SMARTlink account under memberships. Each time the ID card is scanned one (1) punch will be deducted from the pass. 

 

Children 11 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult who is responsible for their supervision on the pool deck or in the water with them. 

 

Children 12-17 must have parental consent to be at the facility unattended. Swimmers must abide by facility rules and may be required to take a deep water test to swim laps. Failure to abide by the policies could result in the pass being revoked.  Pass has no cash value.
