Community Partnership Program

The Bend Swim Club Board of Directors has established a volunteer Community Partnership

Program to provide our children meaningful interaction with their community outside the world of

swimming. This opportunity allows those who choose to participate, the realization that giving

both of time and resources can be an important and an integral part of their development,

enriching their own lives and potentially the lives of those they serve. The Board of Directors is

developing a deeper alignment within our Program to community give back and

volunteerism, which is often an essential component of high school graduation, job interviews,

college admissions, and scholarship applications.

The Bend Swim Club has recently partnered with the Assistance League of Bend whom is dedicated to

helping vulnerable children and adults within the community. Assistance League® of Bend is

one of 120 chapters of Assistance League®, a national nonprofit organization that puts caring

and commitment into action. They have no paid staff and all the money they raise stays in our

community. With generous support from Central Oregonians, the Assistance League®

of Bend provides new school clothes to thousands of children living in poverty across Deschutes

County annually. In addition, they provide physical and emotional support for children, senior

citizens and cancer patients. Last year they touched the lives of over 6,500 people in Deschutes

County through their philanthropic programs:

-Operation School Bell® provided new school clothes to 2,016 children in grades K-12.

-Hats, Hats, Hats created 2,368 hats for Chemo patients as well as homeless children

   and adults.

-Breakfast with Santa provided special breakfast to 100 foster children and their families

including photos with Santa and stuffed animals.

-My Life Story Books created 69 memory books for foster children to store photos, school

  records and personal thoughts.

-These Kids are Cookin’ taught 42 elementary school children the basics of healthy

   cooking and nutrition.

-Be There, Be Square rewarded 60 at risk teens for improved school attendance.

-Senior Caring provided hygiene and items to 1,250 low income seniors.

-Secret Santa provided holiday gifts to 532 seniors in need.

The Bend Swim Club and The Assistance League of Bend will be offering opportunities at these

events for our families and children to volunteer and give back to their community. The Bend

Swim Club Board of Directors, along with our Community Partnership Committee is committed

to this program and will work diligently together to make this a successful and meaningful

experience. Opportunities to be involved will be presented on the BSC website and email

notifications will also be extended.
