Tore Blichfeldt Head Coach

As a proud Sundevil since 1999 I am excited to finally be on deck as the head  swim coach. My swim career started over 50 years ago as a 6 and under age group swimmer. My personal swimming story includes top ten age group times and Prep School All American awards in the 200 and 500 freestyle. I was fortunate to  travel to Div 1 NCAA's all four years in college, and was awarded my Div 1 All American designation as part of UCSB's 4 x 200 free relay. Additionally I enjoy ocean racing, and had the opportunity to represent the United States in competitions in South Africa and Australia and California.

My coaching experience includes over 15 years as a Junior Lifeguard Instructor and intern coordinator, helping to design a program with over 1,000 participants every summer, and to train the instructors and interns, While teaching at Rancho Bernardo High School, I was the JV swim coach for 6 years, and I had swimmers move up to varsity and score in CIF meets. Returning to Mount Carmel as a teacher, I was recruited to start the Del Norte Swim and Dive program, and coached them to their first boys and girls league championships in my 3rd year. I am most proud of my appointment by Miramar College as a San Diego Regional Lifeguard Academy Instructor. In my capacity as an ajunct professor, I help train future ocean lifeguards for agencies from Oceanside to the Mexican border.

Personally, both of my daughters, Kelly and Erika, are MCHS alumni, and my wife Karen is a partner in San Diego Pediatrics. I am an EMT, and a CPR instructor, have dual credentials in LIfe Science and Geoscience, and have been teaching mostly Biotechnology, Biology and Geoscience the last ten years. I still swim for fitness and occassionally compete in Masters Swimming meets.

Maureen Julian Assistant Swim Coach

I’m so excited to have been given this opportunity to coach the MCHS Swim & Dive team once again. As a former competitive swimmer, my love for swimming began in 1984 when I joined my very first swim team on a small island called Guam. Throughout high school, in addition to swimming, I played waterpolo, ran track and field and cross country, and occasionally competed in triathlons. After graduating in 1993, I attended San Diego State University where I majored in Recreation Administration with an emphasis in management.

My passion for coaching swim began in 1990 when I relocated to San Diego in which I continue to do to this present day. My mission is to continue to make a difference in our young athletes lives through character building, teaching lifelong skills, and the love for the sport. I hope to inspire these young athletes in reaching their personal goals to want and be better.

I’m looking forward to an awesome season working with many talented athletes and a great diverse staff that have a lot to offer for everyone involved.   In our continued strive to succeed, I’m honored to be part of this team that’s been built on a foundation grounded by excellence, tradition and hard work. Let’s go Sundevils!

Stephen Roy Assistant Swim Coach

Coach Roy is excited to work with the Mt. Carmel Swim and Dive Program! Stephen Roy has spent the last 4 years working in education as a teacher and instructional assistant in Poway Unified, primarily at Mt. Carmel. As a high schooler, he swam at Poway High School and gained a passion and appreciation for all the benefits of high school athletics, especially swim team. He is looking forward to working with and learning from Coach Blichfeldt and Coach Moe as well as coaching swimmers who are looking for a high school team experience, those new to the sport, and those looking to advance their current level of skill.

Jennifer A. Margrave, Head Diving Coach

Jen Margrave is beginning her 15th season as the Diving Coach at Mt. Carmel.  Over the years, she has coached many different skill levels, from beginners to college athletes, and loves the chance to introduce new people to diving.  She has taken divers with little or no experience and helped them to compete for their high school team and qualify for CIF.

Jen grew up competing in gymnastics and began diving in high school.  She moved to San Diego to attend UCSD where she dove all 4 years.  At UCSD, she was an eight-time All-Conference selection, two-time NCAA All-American, and the first female diver to score points for UCSD at the DII National level.  She was also named ‘Diver of the Year’ three years in a row and went on to become the Head Diving Coach for UCSD in 2007.  Jen holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from UC San Diego and currently spends her days working as a Research Scientist at a cancer genomics company.
