Mt. Carmel Coaching Staff
Chesni Dixon-Meske, MSA Head Coach
I cannot express in words how excited I am to be back on the pool deck again. The foundational experiences of my swimming career come as an age group swimmer in the Central Valley of California, which then transitioned into spending four wonderful years as a varsity Bakersfield High School Driller in two sports (cross country, and swimming). Within each sport, CIF was the goal that was achieved each year, as well and more importantly personal best times. During this same period, beautiful experiences such as Swim Camps, Far Westerns, Zones and countless Jo's times standards continue to fill my summers.
I had the experience of traveling the United States with four college sports teams, training with the swim team at the US Olympic Training Center. Being part of winning teams and contributing not as the fastest and the best athlete as in the early part of my career but as the supportive role to great athletes as a leader, and mentor and tutor. As an athletic department, CSU, Bakersfield won the Sears Cup that year. I look forward to bringing those fighting spirit to the pool deck at MCHS.

Jennifer A. Margrave, Head Diving Coach
Jen Margrave is beginning her 15th season as the Diving Coach at Mt. Carmel. Over the years, she has coached many different skill levels, from beginners to college athletes, and loves the chance to introduce new people to diving. She has taken divers with little or no experience and helped them to compete for their high school team and qualify for CIF.
Jen grew up competing in gymnastics and began diving in high school. She moved to San Diego to attend UCSD where she dove all 4 years. At UCSD, she was an eight-time All-Conference selection, two-time NCAA All-American, and the first female diver to score points for UCSD at the DII National level. She was also named ‘Diver of the Year’ three years in a row and went on to become the Head Diving Coach for UCSD in 2007. Jen holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from UC San Diego and currently spends her days working as a Research Scientist at a cancer genomics company.
Erinn Deters Islip, Assistant Swim Coach
This is Erinn’s seventh year as an Assistant Coach at Mt. Carmel. Her competitive experience spans 16 years starting in Southern California and led to her continued education at Saddleback College where she was Conference All-American and State finalist (2006-07).
After transferring to UC San Diego in 2007 to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and finish her athletic eligibility, she competed in the Pacific Conference and was awarded Pacific Conference All-American and 11-time NCAA Division II finalist in her specialties: 50, 100, 200 Free as well as anchor in the team relays. In 2009, she broke the school record in the 50 free and held the record for 7 years and additionally holds the record for the 200 Free relay.
Erinn continues to be a part of this program because of the great coaching staff and the team’s spirit, pride, and hard work. Erinn has a one-year-old son Evan and works at UC San Diego in addition to coaching.
Maureen "Moe" Julian, Assistant Swim Coach
I’m so excited to have been given this opportunity to coach the MCHS Swim & Dive team this year. As a former competitive swimmer, I started my love for swimming back in 1984 when I first joined my very first swim team on a small island called Guam. I left Guam in 1990 to move to San Diego where I continued my swimming experiences swimming club year round. Throughout my high school years, in addition to swimming, I also played waterpolo, ran track and field and cross country and occasionally competed in triathlons. As a student at Mira Mesa high school occupied with all these sports, I also developed a passion for coaching. I have been coaching club teams since 1990 and have continued to do so 29 years strong. After graduating high school in 1993, I attended San Diego State University for 5 years where I studied Recreation Administration with an emphasis in management.
I’ve been very fortunate to have coached club at MCHS swim pools since 1992. Year after year, the love that I have for swimming and coaching has always continued my mission to make a difference in our young athletes lives to inspire them to be better and want better as swimming is a lifelong and ageless sport that can be done effortlessly, and once taught can never be forgotten.
I’m looking forward to an awesome season working with a bunch of talented swimmers and a great diverse staff that have a lot to offer for everyone involved. In our continued strive to succeed, I’m very happy to be part of this team that’s been built on a foundation grounded by excellence, tradition and hard work. Go Sundevils!
Heather Pedersen, Assistant Swim Coach
Greetings MCHS! I am thrilled to be joining your team. As a native San Diegian, it will be a delight to be able to work with a team with such an amazing legacy and deep seated traditions. In addition to my time on the pool deck, I am active in my children's school site council, PTSA and of course, USA Swimming Club team, where I serve as the board president. My husband’s 24 year Navel career has taken us all around the world, helping me understand the impact of military service on the family unit and explore career paths in business and insurance. However, I value most the role I have been afforded as mentor, tutor and coach to children.
Michael Gainey, Strength Coach
My name is Michael Gainey and I’m a golf instructor and fitness coach. I live in Ramona with my beautiful wife and two young boys. I’ve been working in the golf industry since 1995 and in fitness since 2010. I found my calling when I got into coaching and truly enjoy helping my students reach their athletic potential both physically and mentally. I’m very excited to be a part of the Mt. Carmel athletic department and look forward to a great season with the Swim & Dive Team.
