SWIM-A-THON INFORMATION – May 12, 2018 Honey Bee

 What is it?

So, what is Swim-A-Thon and why do we do it? Swim-A-Thon is a fundraiser in which participants earn money for their team by swimming lengths of the pool. Swimmers have a two-hour period to swim a maximum of 200 lengths, and they receive monetary pledges of support from family, friends, neighbors, and local businesses. Donors can either pledge a certain amount of money per length, or make a flat donation in support of your team. There are over 500 Swim-A-Thons conducted by swim teams across the country each year and the Swim- A-Thon has historically been a very successful method of raising funds for our team.

An exciting aspect of the Swim-A-Thon is that it is not only an excellent fundraiser, but it is also an opportunity to combine swimming and a social event. The Swim-A-Thon is also a positive way boost team spirit and to increase community awareness of our team.

Did you know Swim-A-Thon has taken place for several decades and well over a half a million swimmers have taken part and swum enough laps to go around the world approximately 24 times! It is truly a huge event and, since just 1998 Swim-A-Thons have raised over 30 million dollars for swim clubs around the country.

.Why do we do it?  To raise money for repairs and upgrades to our facilities.

How does it work?   Participants can solicit donations/pledges two ways:

  • Ask in person – and keep track of what you collect using the traditional Swim-a-Thon Packet (for cash/check donations) consisting of the Pledge Form and Receipts.
