Team Info you are new to the team, welcome and rest assured that the team’s emphasis is on fun, enjoyable competition with a focus on learning the basics of the sport. We have a tremendous coaching staff who love to teach while making practices fun and supportive.

Feel free to try it out several times to make sure it is right for you.

The team is open both to residents and non-residents of Blue Ridge. The league allows this because there is so little water polo available in the area.

Boys and girls age 6 through high school are welcome.

Time Commitment

We are VERY relaxed about your time commitment to the team as we understand that summers are packed with other fun activities. Come when you can, as much as you can. If you join us after the start of the season - that is fine. If you have to miss a week or two, that works also.

We offer two practices a day in August. We do this to better accommodate sleep/camp/work schedules. Players are welcome to come twice a day but there is no expectation that they will do so.

When to Start?

Start the season when convenient for you - we know summers can get crazy. It is perfectly okay to start the season late or to start early and disappear. Not ideal - playoffs in late August - but just fine.

Vacationer Membership

To encourage participation by Blue Ridge members, we are offering a new "Vacationer" membership. This recognizes that many families participate in the swim team then travel extensively in August - our prime season. We have added a Sunday night practice during June and July so that there are three practices a week available during that time. We also will set up a couple of games during that period as well. Those who are gone for two or more weeks in August can join as a "Vacationer" at a reduced rate. This way you get plenty of practices, game opportunities and a chance for your child to feel like part of the team even when missing a fair bit of August. Note that this is ONLY available to Blue Ridge members.

Girls Night

When Blue Ridge Water Polo started in 2001 it was actually dominated by girls. As time passed however, the balance shifted to boys to such an extent that it became tough for new girls to feel like they belonged. So, we now offer a regular Girls Night. This will happen on Sundays in late July and the month of August. For details, see the schedule below.

League Info

The water polo league consists of 10-12 teams in the north end and south end of Seattle. Nearly all of our games are against north end teams such as View Ridge and Innis Arden. Typically, the only time we play teams south of Seattle is the final week of playoffs..

Age Groups

We play in age groups starting with the 8 and unders and up through high school. Most games are co-ed, although there are a number of games just for girls.

A player’s age group is determined by their age on June 15th.

Game Schedule

The game schedule is on the calendar but in general, those 13 and up play Tuesday and Thursday evenings during August while those 12 and younger play Friday mornings during August. We have also have some preseason games during July TBA.

Typically, we ask players to play in their age group plus the next group above. This means that a 10-year old might play the 10 and under game and the 12 and under game. But if players are uncomfortable playing older kids, there is zero pressure to do so.

Playoff Schedule

Playoffs run from August 27-August 31. Details are on the calendar. This is the one time of the season we try to get as many players available as possible. So . . . if you are planning camps and vacations and have some flexibility, keep water polo in mind!

To subscribe to the calendar, use:

  • Blue Ridge Members       $110
  • Non-Members                $140
  • 8 and Unders                  $60 (Blue Ridge Members only)
  • "Vacationers"                  $75 (Blue Ridge Members only)

Team T-Shirt

A team t-shirt designed by our high school players is included in your dues and is typically ready early to mid-August.
