Swim Groups

It is the goal of WAKE aquatics to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

GROUP STRUCTURE

Wake 4 – Is entry level to competitive swimming focusing on the fundamentals of all four strokes, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. Participation in this group is an excellent bridge from private swim lessons to summer league swimming and USA Swimming sanctioned swim meets.  The ideal age for this group is age 7 to 12.  Practices for this group are offered three days per week for 90 minutes.  Kids in this group are encouraged to attend at least two practices per week and are encouraged to attend local swim meets.

Wake 3 –
Is a continuation of the fundamental skills taught in Wake 4 with an emphasis on technique, general conditioning and athleticism.  Many swimmers in this group will have already experience swimming at the summer league level.  The ideal age for this group is 9 to 12 years old.  There are four 90 minute practices per week offered for this group and swimmers are encouraged to attend at least three practices per week. Each 90 minute practice will consist of 15 minutes of dryland training.  Kids in this group are encouraged to participate in summer league swimming as well as year round local USA Swimming Sanctioned swim meets.

Wake 2 – This is the age group performance group.  The ideal age for this group is 9 – 18 years old.  It is ideal for those age group swimmers aged 9-14 years old who want to take the next step into year around competitive swimming.  It is also ideal for those swimmers high school age who compete at the high school level.  Swimmers in this group are encouraged to participate in all local swim meets offered as well as two to five travel meets per year including the Southeast Swimming Champtionships.  There are six practices per week offered in this group lasting 150 minutes and swimmers are expected to attend at least four practices per week 11 months of the year.  Swimmers in this group will have also be introduced to more advanced dryland training exercises for both general conditioning and athleticism.

Wake 1 – is for those swimmers desiring to compete at the regional and national level and who wish to pursue swimming at the collegiate level.  The ideal age for this group is 14-18 years old.  To date Wake has placed 100% of its graduating swimmers in Wake 1 into a collegiate swimming program.  There are ten practices per week offered in this group and swimmers are expected to attend all of them.  A minimum of two of the practices offered are an introduction to weight training.  Swimmers in this group are expected to attend all swim meets, both locally and requiring travel, that are offered and for which they qualify.
