Backyard Pool Workouts W/out a Tether

You will need to know the length of your pool, so you can determine how many lengths each repetition is. Some sets may be set according to length counts vs distance.

ANY SWIMMING MUST BE DONE UNDER SUPERVISION. NEVER, EVER SWIM ALONE!

Day 1

200 Swim

100 kick

100 scull

*8u’s 1 round, Rookie 2 rounds, GD/JR/PS 3 rounds, SR/HSD 4 rounds

4 x 4 lengths IM order, so your first four lengths are fly, second four lengths are back, etc

Odd lengths are kicking, even lengths are swim with strong kick awareness

      *8u’s/Rookie 1 round, GD/JR 2 rounds, PS/SR/HSD 3 rounds

10 balance ups - the goal here is to be able to push off the wall underwater and get all the way across your pool with no kicking, sculling, or pulling. Focus is on getting as much power and distance as you can from the push off and by eliminating resistance with an amazing arrow or streamline

15 balance ups with a flutter - you add the flutter kick to the previous balance up exercise with the same goal in mind. It will be easier and quicker to get across the pool, but you cannot lose focus on the quality of your wall push and arrow/streamline. While fluttering make sure your flutter has equal power up and down.

20 balance ups with flutter and freestyle - with the two previous balance up skills you should have had a moment when your body naturally reached the surface. You should start your freestyle stroke immediately before your body surfaces, so you swim through the surface and carry yourself with great balance and propulsion from the legs.

5:00 just kicking

5:00 straight swim

*8u/Rookie 1 round, GD/JR 2-3 rounds, PS/SR/HSD 3-4 rounds

Day 2

8:00 swim -> 5:00 kick -> 3:00 scull/drill -> 2:00 strong swim

“n” x “100” IM’s - you will not be doing literal 100’s, but instead a single length of your pool per stroke as if your pool was a legitimate competitive pool. “n” simply means each group will do a different number of repetitions:

*8u n = 4, Rookie n = 5, GD n = 6, JR n = 7, PS n = 8, SR/HSD n = 9

3 x “50” Under-Over (only two lengths, 1st length is underwater, 2nd length swim on surface)

3 x “50” Over-Under (1st length is swim on surface, 2nd is underwater)

*8u/Rookie 1 round, GD/JR 2 rounds, PS/SR/HSD 3-5 rounds

***ONLY under strict supervision!!!

“n” x “200” @ :30 rest each - swim a legitimate 200 yard distance… this means A LOT of turns!

8u n = 2, Rookie n = 3, GD n = 4, JR n = 5, PS/HSD n = 6, SR n = 7
