Squad Levels

Swimming Squads 2021-2022 

Times may be subject to change based on number of swimmers in each squad. 

Pre-team 1,3: Ages 5+, Time: 5:15-6:00pm or 6:00-6:45pm  - Mon, Wed, Fri 

This is for swimmers ages 5+ (must be 5 years old by 1 May of 2021) who can swim a 25 free with their face in the water and 25 backstroke staying on their back. The focus of this group will be learning to swim all 4 strokes legally with a strong emphasis on developing a great kick for all 4 strokes.  Swim portion of practices will be approximately 45 minutes. Swimmers should be on pool deck no later than 5 mins before start of practice. We recommend at least 2 practices a week.

Pre-team 2: Ages 5+, Time: 5:15-6:00pm  - Tues, Thurs, Fri  

This is for swimmers ages 5+, (must be 5 years old by 1 May of 2021), who can swim a 25 free with their face in the water and 25 backstroke staying on their back and are legal in either butterfly or breaststroke.  The focus of this group will be learning to swim all 4 strokes legally with a strong emphasis on developing a great kick for all 4 strokes.  Swim portion of practices will be approximately 45 minutes in length. Swimmers should be on pool deck no later than 5 mins before start of practice. We recommend at least 2 practices a week.

Squad 1: 6:00-7:00pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday OR Tuesday, Thursday, Friday OR 6:45-7:45pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday 

This is for swimmers legal in all 4 strokes, ages 7-14, who have never been on a year- round swim team.  The focus of this group will be continued stroke development with stroke drills, learning to use a clock, circle swimming, and dives and turns.  Swim practices will be 15 minutes of dryland and approximately 45 minutes swimming.  Swimmers will attend Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.  We recommend at least 2 practices a week, 3 practices a week for the older aged swimmers.     

Squad 2: 4:45-6:15pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday OR Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

This is for swimmers who are legal in all 4 strokes for ages 7-15 and have experience being on a swim team.   Aerobic capacity and endurance sets will be introduced with continued emphasis on stroke development, turns and dives.  Swim practices start with dryland - 15mins, and swim approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and offered Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.  3 practices per week is recommended.

Squad 3: 4:45-6:30pm Monday through Friday 

This is for swimmers legal in all 4 strokes, ages 9-12.  Strokes will be monitored, and aerobic capacity and endurance will be developed, with pacing for races, and tactics for racing being introduced.  Swim practices start with dryland - 15minutes, and swim approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes long and offered Monday through Friday.  We recommend 9-10-year-olds attend a minimum of 3 practices a week, max 4 days a week.  For 11-12-year-olds we recommend a minimum of 4 practices a week, not more than 5.

Junior Varsity Squad: 4:45-6:30pm Monday through Friday

This is for swimmers legal in all 4 strokes and meet the coach’s swimming requirements for squad 3; ages 13-18. Strokes will be monitored and aerobic capacity and endurance will be developed, with pacing for races, and tactics for racing being introduced. Swim practices start with dryland - 15minutes, and swim approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and offered Monday through Friday.  A minimum of 4 practices a week is recommended. 

Squad 3 Elite: 6:30-8:30pm Monday through Friday, 7-9am or 9-11am Saturday (Dryland TBA usually on Tues & Thurs) 

For those swimmers ages 11-14 committed to having swimming be the sport they plan to prioritize.  An attendance commitment of a minimum of 5 practices a week will be required with a commitment of 2 one-hour dryland sessions a week on Tues and Thursday.  Swimmers will need to be able to accomplish certain swim sets in order to swim at this level.

Squad 4: Swim 6:30-8:30pm Monday through Friday, 7-9am or 9-11am Saturday (Dryland TBA usually on Tues & Thurs)

For those swimmers ages 15-18 committed to having swimming be the sport they plan to prioritize.  An attendance commitment of a minimum of 5 practices a week will be required with a commitment of 2 one-hour dryland sessions a week on Tues and Thursday or Saturday.  Swimmers will need to be able to accomplish certain swim sets in order to swim at this level.

Varsity Squad: 6:30-8:30pm Mon through Friday, 7-9 or 9-11am Saturday

This is for those swimmers, ages 15 -18/19, who love to swim and who meet the coach’s swimming criteria for squad 4 and can keep up with squad 4 swimmers, but who cannot commit to the squad 4 attendance requirement due to other activities taking preference over swimming.    

National Squad: (Dryland TBA Tues & Thurs, Sat) Swim 6:30pm – 8:30pm Monday through Friday, 7-9am/9-11am Saturday

These swimmers have goals of making AAAA times and faster, ages 15 and older. They are committed to attending 6 swimming practices a week and 3 one-hour long dryland practices a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.  They are able to meet the coach’s swimming criteria by accomplishing certain swimming sets to be able to swim at this level.
