Director of Swimming/Head Coach

Lidia Lucaciu Menzies

Lidia founded the Dynamo Swim Club in 1998.

Lidia swam competitively for Romania placing first in National and International competitions. She continued to race at the Masters level and placed first in her disciplines from 1983 through 1990. She also placed first in the Naytikh Ebdomada Competition in Greece in 1992. Since she started coaching in 1982 Lidia has trained a number of very successful swimmers at all levels. Some of her swimmers have reached the international stage and swam at Olympic and Para Olympic Games 

A Professional Head Swim Coach with over 20 years of progressive experience in the coaching field. Skilled in talent identification, organizing, working with athletes in all age groups and levels, including disabled athletes. She earned a reputation for developing coaches and swimmers to achieve their maximum performance levels, mentoring responsibilities related to the overall enhancement of coaching knowledge, and promoting enthusiasm.

  • Lidia also published the book "Talent Identification in Swimming" in Canada 1995

Assistant Head Coach

Marybel Menzies

Marybel has an extensive aquatic, competitive swimming background. Prior to starting her coaching career, Marybel was a swimmer for 9 years. She knew early on that she wanted to pursue coaching and began coaching for Dynamo in 2008. Marybel went on to found and coach her High School swim team in 2009. From 2010 to 2014, she coached Dynamo's 10 and under Regional A team and assisted in coaching all levels through the club including Provincial and National level athletes. During the summer of 2014, Marybel was Head Coach at Surrey Sea Lions Summer Swim Club and lead the team to Summer Provincials. From September 2014 to August 2015, Marybel was given two lead coaching positions within Edmonton Keyano Swim Club as the Head Development Coach and the Head Bear Cubs Coach as well as the opportunity to be the director of a newly established Swim School program. During this time she mentored and supervised a group of upcoming coaches, established a more unified beginners program, and gained insight into the management of a large, well-established competitive swimming organization.

  • 8 years of Coaching Experience

  • American Swim Coaches Association - Level 2

  • Water Safety Instructor

  • National Lifeguard Service

  • 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher

Assistant Coach

Jessica Jung

Jessica started swimming at an early age and has always loved being in the water. She has been swimming on her schools' swim team for the past five years. She is certified in all the  Red Cross standards (WSI, Standard First AId, Bronze Cross, NL, LSI) Jessica’s love for teaching young children inspired her to seek a position as a swim coach. Jessica loves coaching and hopes to share her passion for swimming with other people. Her goal is to teach young people to swim to their best ability and help them achieve their goals. She believes in hard work, dedication and having fun!

Assistant Coach

Rebecca Szackas

Rebecca has had a passion for swimming starting at a young age and is still very involved in the sport. She swam for over four years in the provincial level including one and a half years swimming for Dynamo and is currently on her school's swim team. She enjoys being in the water and knowing water safety as she has completed lifeguard courses in the past. Rebecca's goal is to teach young swimmers to swim to their best ability and to achieve their goals.

Jordan has been involved in swimming for over 9 years and has swum competitively at both regional and provincial levels. He currently attends Burnaby North Secondary as a grade 11 student, where he is actively involved with the school swim team. Outside of the pool, Jordan enjoys going out and spending time with friends and family. After many years of coaching experience as a volunteer, he is excited to start off his first season with Dynamo, sharing his passion, experience, and knowledge with the younger swimmers. He looks forward to seeing everyone at the pool!

Elva has been involved with swimming for more then 10 years now. She is 14 years old and has competed and medaled in numerous Regional and Provincial Championships for the BCSSA. She is also a proud holder of several provincial, regional, and club records. She began volunteering at the age of 12, and started coaching at age 14. She currently goes to Burnaby Central Secondary School and is in grade 10. She also organizes and is in charge of her school swim team. Although this is her first year with Dynamo she is very excited to be focused on the training of the younger generation and helping develop skills and love for the sport.
