GROUP STRUCTURE

The Sunset Hills Swim and Dive Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Sunset Hills Swim and Dive Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

SWIM TEAM

6 and under This is our entry level group.  Swimmers in this group must complete at least a 25 yard freestyle unassisted in less than 2 minutes and swim 15 yards of backstroke unassisted after week 2 of the season.
7 - 8 year-olds Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting start technique.
9 - 10 year-olds

Athletes in this group are exposed to training for the first time.  Swimmers are introduced to flip turns, IM turns, drills, etc.  Stroke technique is perfected at this age.  Athletes in this group train for the 100 yard Individual Medley.  Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged.

11 - 12 year- olds Athletes entering this group must display a desire to begin training on a more committed basis. Competition at swim meets is expected in this group. Training takes precedence over technique work for the first time in the athletes development. Athletes in this group train for the 50 yard freestyle, 50 yard backstroke, 50 yard breastroke, 50 yard butterfly, and 100 yard Individual Medley.
13 - 14 year-olds Athletes entering this group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present.
15 - 18 year-olds Athletes entering this group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of.  Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present.

 

SWIM TEAM ACADEMY

Who Swimmers ages 4 and over that are potty trained and meet criteria.  Swimmer will be evaluated to ensure they meet criteria during the first week of practice.  They are members of Sunset Hills Swim and Dive Team and are eligible for kickboard races at home meets.  We only have space for 45 kids in this program, so please register early to ensure your spot.
Criteria to be in program
  1. Put face in water and go underwater unassisted
  2. Kick with kickboard for 5 yards unassisted
  3. Float on stomach and back with assistance
  4. Tread water unassisted for at least 10 seconds

DIVE TEAM
Who

For athletes ages 6-18, who want to become better divers.

Criteria to be in program 

  1. Must meet all of the Dive Academy criteria.
  2. Must be able to complete a front dive with approach.
Practice time Dive team practice will run from 7-9:30am Monday - Friday.  Divers may come at any time during the set practice time, but we ask that athletes only stay for 1 hour.  Dive Team members may not attend Dive Academy practice.

 

DIVE ACADEMY
Who For athletes ages 6 and over that want to learn the basics of diving, with the goal of moving up to the dive team.  Academy members do not participate in meets.  Once an Academy member is able to meet all of the dive team requirements, he/she may move up to the dive team.
Criteria to be in program
  1. Ages 6-18.
  2. Must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted in less than 2 minutes.
  3. Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes.
  4. Must be able to jump off the diving board unassisted and swim to the side of the pool.
Practice Time Monday - Friday:  9:30-10am
