FAQ

What is the best way to reach your staff? Email us at sjsrc@swimsouthbay.org.  We do not have a poolside office phone number.

What is the pool temp? 80-82 degrees

Where are the bathrooms/changing area? The locker rooms are on either side of the pool

Are there showers? We have showers in the changing rooms.

What ages do we offer lessons for? Ages 6 months-adult.

How many sessions must I enroll in?  You may sign up for one or more sessions at a time.  There are no minimums, but we’d love to swim with your water lover for as many sessions as your schedule permits.

All registration is done through the online system at www.swimatsjsrc.com.  You may register for swim lessons or Summer Race Team through this site.  Available openings can be viewed in real time and all paid by credit card.  ALL PROGRAMS AT THE SJSRC ARE FOR MEMBERS ONLY.

What is your cancellation/change of date policy? A $30 Administrative Fee will be charged for any cancellation made within 7 days of start date.  There is a $10 charge for change of date or time IF the request is received prior to the start of the session.

How do I know if I am confirmed into the time/date I requested?   Upon receipt of your online registration, you will receive an emailed receipt with the details of your classes.  If you do not receive a receipt, your registration has not been completed.

Do you prorate lessons? In the rare occasion that we have a time slot available for lessons after the start of the session, we would be happy to pro-rate your classes (if you began on the second or third day of the session.)

What happens if I miss a lesson? THERE ARE NO MAKE-UP LESSONS.  For extreme circumstances, we will offer a credit to be used towards another session (funerals, major illness, etc…) If a swimmer has NOT started the session, they can transfer their registration to another session with a $10 change fee (space permitting.) If they HAVE begun the session, we can not transfer payment to a different session.

What is the difference between semi-private and private lessons?  Semi-private lessons work well when you need your similar ability  leveled children to swim at the same time and there are no other instructors available. It is a very good way for busy parents to have their swimmers complete their lessons within the same 25 minute timeframe IF there is only one instructor available. In most cases, siblings are at different levels of experience, thus making private lessons much more beneficial. Some children work better with another swimmer around, while it may be a distraction for others. Semi-private lessons are $120 per swimmer, while private lessons are $132 per swimmer.

To register for a semi-private, you will book the regular session through the website (www.swimatsjsrc.com), forward your receipt to sjsrc@swimsouthbay.org with the name of the additional swimmer to add to your lesson.  You will then be billed the remainder of the session fee to add one additional swimmer to your lesson.

We do NOT automatically pair your swimmer with anyone else.  All lessons are private, one-on-one sessions UNLESS you specifically   request an additional swimmer using the method above.

Who can join the “Race Team” program? Our seasonal Race Team program is for swimmers who can swim 25 yards of continuous freestyle with side breathing and backstroke on their back.  Breaststroke and  butterfly knowledge are not required, but definitely a plus if they know them already! The swimmers should be comfortable in deep water and not need to touch the walls, lanelines or bottom of the pool to get across.  Coaches are NOT in the water with the Race Team swimmers, but  working with them from the pool deck.

Can my child play on the steps while the other one has a lesson? Once swim time is over, they must exit the teaching area.  Swim lesson lanes are reserved solely for instruction during the designated times.

Do you require swim diapers? All newly potty trained or diapered swimmers must wear a plastic pants style swim diaper or tightly fitting plastic pants over their disposable diaper.

What if my child CAN NOT perform a specific skill or is scared to try?  Our lessons here are different from any other program. The lesson will flow with the pace of your child. Specific skills can be skipped OR  emphasized based on the parents’ request.

Do you offer lessons for children with special needs? Yes, our teachers work with special needs children.

Can my friend’s child or a sibling sub-in during my child’s lesson if my child is not there? As long as we have a registration file and waiver on file for that child, you are all set!
