Hiring New Coaches/Staff
REMINDER: When hiring a new coach, there is due diligence that must be followed, per USA Swimming rules: past employment reference checks – a minimum of the 3 most recent in the last 10 years, education verification and a state motor vehicle report. USA Swimming and Utah Swimming also encourage every team to complete optional screens: social network search and a google media search. There is also always the option of fingerprinting individuals who will have oversight of children and additional background screening. If there are ever any additional questions, you may always call USA Swimming about coaches or possible hires. Remember, Utah Swimming is committed to safeguarding the well-being of all members, with the welfare of its athlete members as the top priority.
Note: 2020 Athlete, coach and club registration is affected by new concussion education requirements. More information, including Mandatory "To Do's" for clubs, coaches, parents of athletes unaffiliated with a club, and others, is available at the bottom of the Concussion Management page.
CLUBS: Do you have coaches who no longer work for you showing up on your club portal?
Let the Utah Swimming Registrations person know. (To get contact info, hover over "Governance" tab above and click on "Board of Directors") The Registrations person can unattach them from your team in the SWIMS database. Why is this important? To help maintain your 100% Certified Club status and prevent email reminders warning of upcoming credential expirations for that coach.
