Do I need to be a member of Glen Oaks Country Club to swim on the Swim Team? No, however non-members pay a higher fee than Glen Oaks Country Club members. Non-members fees are $75 more per swimmer.
What are the registration fees? What do the fees include? Fees vary by age and Glen Oaks Country Club membership. Fees include coaching for practices, meets and a t-shirt. Swim Suits, caps, banquets or other activities are additional and not included in the registration fees.
Glen Oaks Member Registration Fees (You must be a current Glen Oaks Country Club member when you register to qualify for the member registration. Indicating...”I'm going to join in June” won't qualify you for the member registration fees as it isn't fair to those that pay Glen Oaks membership fees year around. Your swimmer will not be approved until membership is current if you register as a member of Glen Oaks Country Club. Your swimmer could lose a spot in age groups that fill fast)
5-12 = $160
13-14 = $110
15-18 = $80
Non Glen Oaks-Member Registration Fees
5-12 = $235
13-14 = $185
15-18 = $155
Are there try-outs? No, we welcome all swimmers at all levels. 6 & Unders are the only group that have a “test swim” which will determine if they are able to swim a length of the pool in under 90 seconds. Those unable to swim a length of the pool or unable to swim the length in under 90 seconds will practice as a Junior Gator.
What is Junior Gators? Junior Gators is a program for kids ages 5/6 who are newer swimmers who are unable to swim a length of the pool in under 90 seconds. This program allows new swimmers to still feel a part of the team, while working on their skills to hopefully move to the 6 & under group while not hindering those who already have the ability to swim in the allotted time.
All swimmers ages 5-6 shall register as a 6 & Under swimmer with the expectation they can swim a length of the pool in under 90 seconds and will swim at least 2 meets, as all team members must swim a minimum of 2 meets. At the beginning of the season there will be a swim test for all 6 & under swimmers. Those who are unable to swim a lap in 90 seconds and who the coaches believe will not achieve that goal after the first week of practice, will be moved to Junior Gators.
Junior Gators only practice in the morning, on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 11-11:45. Junior Gators are coached under the direction of an assistant coach along with the help of the 13/14 girls from the swim team. Junior Gators do not swim in meets until they can achieve the ability to swim a length of the pool in under 90 seconds. If after a few weeks of practice, they are able to make this time, they will then be moved back up to 6 & unders and will participate in meets. If your child cannot swim independently, please look into swim lessons and plan to join the team next year upon being able to swim independently. Junior Gators practices will not be attended to by a coach at all times and as a result the children are expected to be able to swim without help of floatation devices. Practices are to build stamina and strength, while working on form.
What Junior Gators is not? Cheap swim lessons or an easy way for your kid to swim practices and not swim meets. This is a swim team and all capable swimmers are expected to attend meets. 6 & Unders only swim the 1st half of meets.
Are Junior Gator Parents required to volunteer? Yes, however they require fewer hours. Junior Gators are invited to participate in Luau, End of season banquet, reward cart and other activites which are all events that require volunteers. You will not be asked to volunteer at the meets as your swimmer will not participate in those, but you will be asked to volunteer before, during or after other activities.
What are the volunteer requirements: All families are required to volunteer 10 hours during the regular swim season. If your child swims at Qualification or Championships, you will be expected to work a shift at a minimum of one of these events. There are a variety of different volunteer needs. Each family will sign up for a committee after registering. Your committee Chair will contact you will details and options for volunteering throughout the season. Families will be charge $75 if you don’t show up for an assigned shift. Likewise, if you choose not to respond to requests to fulfill hours requested by a committee chairperson and do not fulfill your hours you will be charged.
We are all busy, we all have excuses, but we just cannot have a swim season without the support of all. If you wish to opt-out of volunteering you may pay the $350 Opt-out fee when registering. If you or your company are interested in Sponsorship, the Platinum level includes the Opt-out fee as well as many other amazing promotional opportunities.
