Swimming is an interesting sport.  There is a lot of terminology that goes along with it.  Here are some helpful terms and abbreviations that the coaches use on a regular basis:

dr drill
k kick 
board with a kickboard
nb without a kickboard
pad paddles
fr freestyle
bk backstroke
fl butterfly
br breaststroke
IM Individual Medley (fl/bk/br/fr)
MI Reverse IM (fr/br/bk/fl)
ch choice
ez easy
stroke best stroke (usually other than free)
DPS Distance Per Stroke
SC Stroke Count (count your strokes!)
FAD From A Dive
10/10/5 10m fast/10m easy/5m fast
build increase your speed throughout
rp Race Pace (as determined by the coach)
threshold 200m time + 20 seconds
descend or dec. each repetition gets faster
neg. split Negative Split (second half faster than first)
even split first half same speed as second half
all out AS FAST AS YOU CAN GO
s/s smooth and strong
cruise smooth and steady
