Swim Groups

The Skaneateles Lightning offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is our goal to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

 

E Group

This is our beginner level group. An athlete will need to swim one length (25 yds.) of freestyle and backstroke to enter this group.  Practices focus on reinforcing comfort in a workout scenario and additional stroke technique.  Competing at swim meets is encouraged but not mandatory.

Workout Days/Times:  Any two days: M, W, F 5:30 - 6:30 (must declare to coaches and remain in those days for the session)
 

D Group

From the E group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting start and turn technique.  Additional focus is placed on conditioning.  Competing at swim meets is encouraged but not mandatory.

Workout Days/Times: Any two days: M, W, F 5:30 - 7:00 (must declare to coaches and remain in those days for the session)

 

C Group

From the D group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have become proficient at C group level skills. This group is exposed to focused training for the first time while trying to prepare for longer and more diverse events, including relays. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged.

Workout Days/Times: T, Th, F 5:30 - 7:00
 

B Group

 Athletes entering this group must display a desire to begin training on a more committed basis. Competition at swim meets is expected in this group. Training takes precedence over technique work for the first time in the athlete's development.

A Group

Athletes entering the A group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present. Athletes in the A group train with the goal of attending higher level meets and excelling on high school and college level teams.
